Thank you very much NORTH 02 for this great work you have done. Indeed, this is our story in general. But also, we modern Greeks must continue the work of our ancestors. We have been absent for centuries. The Renaissance artists in Florence were inspired by the ideals, arts, sciences, mythology, philosophy, history and worldview of our ancient Greek ancestors. They were inspired by us but without us. We are responsible for our mistakes and our downfall. But in recent years we have made a promise. Our return. Always on a spiritual, scientific and artistic level through education. The democracy that was born here in Greece and the freedom must continue to exist. Democracy is the most important structural element of Western Civilization. We are all called to defend it. The Greeks will be present this time as well. Thanks again NORTH 02 for this amazing video! Salute from Athens!

I am a first generation American. My father was a Greek citizen and my mom’s family is from Cyprus. I can’t tell you how my heart swelled with pride at your post. I am striving to see the ancient Hellenes as they were, not the idealized version. Our heritage has given so much to the world and yet has more to offer. Warm regards from America.

Excellent job. The one thing that stands out as something new that I learned was that some of Alexander's generals were his fellow students being taught by Aristotle. This makes a lot of sense of what happened after Alexander died. Thanks for all your hard work.

One of the best documentaries over anceint Greece. It's crazy how people only remember Pheidippides 26 miles from marathon to Athens. This man needs the credit he deserves. In a total of 10 day he ran approximately 316 miles. Thats so hard for me to comprehend. He ran to sparta from Athens then ran back, then ran to marathon only to make that final run back to Athens after the battle was won. Absolutely crazy. Also the Trojan war could be real however of course the direct story would not have happened. And no gods or half gods were involved obviously. But there is a city where Troy supposedly was in turkey that was ransacked and burnt down at the same time of the Trojan war. So the war could have happened but more then likely no wooden horse was used and no gods were involved. Just men killing other men.
Troy was discovered 150 years ago (actually different layers of the city that was destroyed several times), the mansion of Agamemnon was also discovered (both by Heinrich Schliemann) and n general all the details given by Homer has been proven accurate. Excellent video

I, as one, am new to your channel, all of your other videos impressed me with how much information you have put into them, but this video on the Greeks and especially Macedon and Alexander the great did indeed impress me. I am seventy six years old, and ever since I was about ten years old I have made it a point in my life to learn as much as possible about everything....A-TO-Z....and as that other person said his teacher asked him to watch this video, and he was also impressed, and as he said, I will say WOW. Michael said that, bye for now my friend.

This is truly excellent! But a few pronunciation faux pas: For example "corps" is pronounced "core." "Corpse" is a very different thing (hint - think of those dead bodies lying all around after battle!). + there were a few other pronunciation slip ups, but, over all, this was truly excellent! Great accompanying imagery & very well-researched! Thank you!

Great video, though this is a very informative video the pronounciation of greek names and places is oftentimes either wrong or (though understandably anglicized) mispronounced. As it's a great series i would recommend asking greek people for advice on how to pronounce them in your next greek themed video. thank you very much and greetings from greece.

New subscriber here mate and I'm impressed with this documentary..... Great video, top job mate!!! The lessons of the Persian/Greek war have been used countless times over history right up to modern warfare ..... know your enemy, know and understand the terrain that your fighting in, exploit this to your advantage and make sure that you choose where you fight, don't let the enemy decide when and where you fight. Had that bloke not given the Persians the knowledge about that pass around the Spartans, who knows how many Persians would've died right in front of the brilliant Spartan soldiers.....
Great work. As a Greek, I thank you for your effort.

Lots of history video documentys seem like one copied the other word for word 'but this seems to be constructed as an original. Some things that were mentioned in this information packed video, I've never heard of, it might have been brief, but was still pretty in-depth. { March of the ten thousand } I reckon would be something you'd be worthy of making a video of! Bravo Munga!

Another banger but I have something to add (again). You use the correct (or close without speaking ancient Greek) terminology for most (if not all) city state civilizations in this production - EXCEPT - that which we call “Sparta”. This is a modern (ish) colloquial name given to Laconia (city state) or Laconians (citizen) respectively. This is the origin of the Greek letter “Lambda” associated with their shields as it is the equivalent to “L” in the Greek alphabet to represent their country. You do mention their “laconic reply” to Philip but don’t mention the important root of the word. Seems a large oversight to not at least mention it even if you resume referring to the common name. Anyway cheers and keep the wonderful history coming!

The Ancient Greek were amazing people. The methods of logic, reason, science, and mathematics they discovered were incredible. It is tragic that the ancient Greeks could not learn to master themselves and avoid the destructive practice of slavery and constant unprovoked warfare on others.

I don't think that's really how the battle of Thermopylae went down, I am most likely wrong but that version sounds like a derivative of the movie 300.
