Velvet Sky and Angelina Love joined TNA as part of its newly formed knockouts division in 2007. Unfortunately they did not have the same level of wrestling skill as the other girls so they had to go a different route using their looks. And this worked. The Beautiful People often had the most viewed segment on an episode of TNA Impact which caused management to continue to use them a lot. Despite their lack of in ring skill. They were on an off in TNA for a decade and there were a few different versions of the group which I will cover in a later video.

The women who lost their jobs said it's more exploitative getting paid minimum wage as they do now, than getting thousands for a few hours of looking pretty, which they enjoyed, being proud of their looks the same way the negative women are proud of being feminist. The Beautiful People were a home run in terms of how they were booked and how they were presented, as well as their character work, something that was a bit spotty through a lot of TNA's history - their entrance theme is still one of my absolute all time favourites. Love was also solid enough in the ring that she was able make BP matches watchable from a wrestling standpoint without overshadowing the others to the point where the entire team was simply not believable. They pretty much set the standard for the "Mean Girls" schtick in wrestling. I'm not sure there's a place for a team like the Beautiful People now as, even if - as you say - the wrestlers were totally happy to do it as I think Social Media has got to the point where no-one would take that claim at face value and would assume that the "evil company" was forcing them into it. Also, the whole "Mean Girls" trope isn't as widely represented in the media as it was back in the early 2000s

Actually Hawk, Angelina briefly feuded with Gail before Gail left for WWE. They had a good PPV Match. Also, even I as a gay man & someone who was not into the PG-Total Divas era (not the talent’s fault, that blame falls on WWE powers that be), ai agree with Angelina, there’s nothing wrong with the “Beautiful Sexy Siren” character type as long as the character work is done well & can work a match and the mic. Angelina, & to a certain extent Velvet perfected that. And yeah, Im no Russo stan in anyway, but this is one of the few creative ideas he did that I give him props for. Low-key, Lacey may have worked better as a valet/mouthpiece getting into an occasional catfight (a la the catfighter/valets of the ECW days)

Angelina Love man, she proved a lot of critics wrong. At the time the body type of the best female wrestlers were all either pretty short and a bit stalky or if they were tall they were monsters like Kong; she was tall and skinnier so most keen critics wrote her off. She proved she can perform with that model body at a very high level, breaking a lot of stereotypes back then. And her mic work was second to none. It made sense the company made a big deal out of her.

The Beautiful People today would be something like Mandy Rose/Toxic Attraction or Tiffany Stratton with the comedy of Chelsea Green. Basically Mean Girls plus today's influencers on social media. Nothing can match TBP though. They understood the assignment. They outshined Divas sex appeal (on top of the latter becoming PG). The sex appeal wasn't weak catfights or costume contests every other week, they did their god entrance and knew when to pivot to the match. They weren't high-caliber wrestlers, but they brought a ton of attention to the division and kept it going for a long time. Even with annoying things like Lacey Von Erich, they proved to be one of TNA's biggest acts and they always get invited back for big moments like the 1000th episode. TNA Hall of Fame for sure.

Finally someone else who also hates Madison Rayne as much as I do! Couldn't stand her from day one. Never liked her as part of The Beautiful People. And I know some people joke about this, but I legitimately think she had to be fucking somebody in management for how many title reigns she had and for how long some of them lasted despite her lack of talent. Also despite Velvet Skys in-ring skills early on she has always been my favorite member of the team. I was glad to see when she got better in the ring later on. Honestly I think in those early years of The Beautiful People, having Velvet mostly play cheerleader and barely wrestling just pointed out the skill gap between them. I think if they would have had her wrestle a bit more regularly instead of almost always deferring to Angelina, we would have gotten the better more experienced Velvet Sky a little earlier than we did.

She was always over with the crowd, and her ring entrance is right up there with Velvet Sky's. She was treated so poorly by the TNA management, from the high-risk bumps with Abyss and the severe injuries that caused, then reneging on paying her medical bills, it was a real disgrace. The match she had with Vicky Lyons is a real testament to the kind of person she was, it's absolutely tragic how her story ended. RIP the Scream Queen.

It's funny how back in the day(90s, 2000s), women were mostly used as "sex sells" barbies with a few notable standalones, while these days, such frivolous, girly girly characters are shunned as sexist and backwards. The worst thing about this is that women have literally began copying men in terms of promos and ring work and you essentially get a men's light division. That's my 2 cents on it anyway.

They are one of the best and possibly one of the first female faction in a main stream company and they all got better with time maybe not to the level of the ladies today but hey they definitely held their own. Adding Lacey Evans and Billy Gunn wasnt the best for the group since they didnt really add anything to the group. I think they broke up at the right time but unfortunately they kept reuniting which really didnt work. Plus the Sarah Palin part was stupid as hell. Laycool and Toxic Attraction feel very similar to the Beautiful People and honestly yes there is room for this type of gimmick nowadays and tbh it would make the wrestling world a little more interesting because instead of everyones gimmick being im a wrestler and im good at it maybe play into a gimmick more and even something simple could do wonders nowadays.

I could be totally wrong here, but I think the whole thing with Sarah Palin joining The Beautiful People was that there was a political-spoof p*rn (yeah, that's a thing) called, "Who's Nailin' Palin?" that got a lot of attention at the time, even in the mainstream press. So I think the joke was supposed to be that The Beautiful People were so dumb they thought Sarah Palin was actually in a p*rn movie and wanted her to become an honorary member. The reason why it was so easy to fool them into believing the imposter was because they have only seen the movie where she's played by a p*rn actress, but the joke gets even more lost because all three of them don't look alike anyway. Maybe TNA saw what a success it was for the p*rn industry and figured they'd do their own Sarah Palin thing. Again, just a guess, but all of that kind of sounds dumb enough to be true.

2009-2010 Sarah Palin was someone people liked to make fun of apparently, there were several videos across old KZbin parodying such as Smosh, and there was this one KZbinr literally who’s entire Schtick was impersonating her. Strange time

The fact that they got so popular that the WWE had to copy them is crazy. If you don't think Lacool was Beautiful people lite your lying.

When i started watching TNA i was a teenager so the Beautiful people definitely grabbed my Attention, they were absolutely gorgeous and they played into that in a massive way with excellent character work and promos. Yeah there wrestling wasn't great but they were there to grab peoples attention and they did just that. Also most storylines around this time were centered around them as good as Victoria, Taylor Wilde and Awesome Kong were there character and promo work wasn't very good so the Beautiful were really needed to drive the storylines along.

GYAAAA! I was watching a great video on the Beautiful People for almost 20 minutes before a rare sleep-deprived white gorilla popped up on my screen! Now that is hitting me with a brick!

also maryD if you read this .. @10:22 .. when the beautiful people are taken to a farm and do farmwork... that has to be a nod to a tv show "the simple life" if youve ever seen that. it was from 2003 - 2007 and it was the same idea. take 2 rich beautiful airhead chicks and make them work on a farm to show them what real work is all about or something.

Wrestling in general could benefit from this era and style of women’s wrestling. Feuding over magazine covers, popularity contests, mean girl factions, it’s only childish by its presentation like LayCool in the PG era. If some wrestlers started fighting over OnlyFans exposures, magazine covers, and rumors it would bring in a lot of new fans. Not every female wrestler needs to be technical athletes. We need the Chynas, Stacy Keiblers, the Sables, and Velvet Skies in wrestling, they brought reality into professional wrestling and made it mainstream.
