This is my 3rd cousin on my mom's side.. He also made a little red truck. My mom said Talmadge and his wife and two children would come down in that small car. Talmadge would come down in his truck and they were so small they would pick it up and put it on the porch so it wouldn't get wet if it rained or stolen.

Where can we find the link to the raffle of the car? Did they already give it away?

It’s in the show notes of the podcast episode at storiesofappalachia.com since KZbin doesn’t do outside links. I have, though, now put the web address in the KZbin episode notes if you want to copy and paste it! And the car was apparently sold in February.

Movies are never factual. Trucker did his own undoing. He did make 53 prototypes but no two were the same. They all looked near the same. He promised performance that was impossible. The engines he used were government surplus from WWII so he didn't have a sustainable source. Only the last few prototypes had a reverse. And he over sold shares and dealerships. The later got him in trouble with the government. Tucker was never a threat to American car manufactures. There was never a tested and proven Tucker car. The myth and lore does make for a good story. Talmadge Judd sounds like a interesting person. Built his own car just because he could. Although I don't doubt that he built his car, it looks so much very like the American Austin Bantam. They were made from 1927-1941. More details about Mr. Judd's car are needed.

Yep. I remember when the movie, "Tucker" came out. One of the auto magazines had a lengthy article about the car. They compared it to the cars of that era, and said it was just not a very good vehicle. It made for a good movie, but it would have never been real competition for the big three.

@@billlloyd4354 What never was is always better than what we have. As for the Hummingbird he built his own car from parts. He did not make a new better car. If you look at photos it is very much like the Austin Bantam. I suspect many parts from the Austin were used. Who made the engine? Who made the frame? Who made the body? The grill is exactly the same. It was not an invention, it was a backyard build. From parts made by somebody else. Tucker is just myth and lore. The Hummingbird is just a backyard build, using parts from a worn out junked car. Tesla did have a college education. (just to let narrator know) Myth and lore is just old guys gossiping like they say house wives do. Ironically, it makes them what they say their wives are. OH OH! I heard that but let me add my 2 cents (made up shit you suspect), then it becomes a dime. A lie told by people that don't realize that they are liars by saying it.
