The Jaguar XJ220 is a masterpiece of automotive engineering that has fascinated enthusiasts since its unveiling in the late 1980s. But To fully appreciate the XJ220, one must examine its origins, particularly the prototype that laid the foundation for what would become one of the most iconic supercars of its time. SO let me tell you the story of the XJ220, the concept that spawned it and a crazy special version called the TWR.

Fun sideline, the purpose-built 220S factory in Oxfordshire was transferred to Aston Martin for the assembly of the DB7. It's now a printing factory.

Such an incredibly unique car. There's literally nothing else that looks like it, would never be mistaken for anything else. I'm from the American south and I should want to drive big, boxy cars with a massive V8 out front with brutal acceleration in a straight line but handling like an aircraft carrier, but from the first time I saw my aunt's white, 1983 V12 XJS at six years old I've been a big fan of Jaguar. The lines on those are incredible and you can't beat an XJR from the 2000s in terms of elegance, presence and style style style. Makes me so sad to see what the current team at Jaguar are doing to the brand. Far as I'm concerned it's sacrilege. Jaguar has seemingly always struggled from the mid seventies onwards but I fear the current stewards may finally kill the brand. Talk about not understanding your target market.

These sell around CHF 600'000 here at the moment, and that for the regular ones. No S to be found here. A very special car indeed. Thanks Chris 👍💪✌

If the XJ220 had used the V12 and AWD system it would have had less power and been 200-300kg heavier. That would have made its acceleration slower and top speed much slower! Those that complain about the V6 twin turbos noise have clearly never heard an F40, 959, EB110 etc.

Yeah, maybe. But maybe, the XJ220S TWR could have been more powerful (If V12 XJ220 exist as production version)

And some of them knew that 959, F40, and EB110 exist. But they still also hate XJ220 engine sound.

Since it's sold to general public, that outcome would've been desirable. Buyers don't want ridiculous, uncontrollable power. They want a good sounding, decent handling, fast enough and pretty looking car with a prestigious badge.

Great video, never heard of it. The Ferrari FF or GTC4 Lusso is my pick for a v12 and AWD. Not cheap though.

Great video. Great lookin car and it’s power to weight ratio is as good as it gets. The TT V6 does get it pretty solid but being a turbo setup it’s gunna be very peaky. V12 with a supercharger would be my mod without a doubt because this car looks like it deserves it.

I remember when they were new and they were in a racing series in US . I think it was called Fastmasters The drivers were retired Indy and Nascar.

2:11 Well, i think it's v6 wasn't just come from that Group B rally car. But from What i know, it also come from xjr10 and xjr11. Maybe, the XJ220 as a production version was inspired by xjr10 and xjr11.

The TWR is better because of the weight loss….. the extra power was unnecessary, and regardless of whether it is better looking or not, that 1000 kg of weight saving must make all performance fans giddy at the thought

Buying a Jag nowadays is like buying any crappy car like a KIA or HYUNDAI out there.. The only thing is they screw you outa tens of thousands of dollars.. Over engineered and nothing but a money pit... If you're rich go for it .. If not you'll be out of house and home..
