I think it was her first battle, rather than original maiden voyage, I'm not certain but that's what I've gathered

Far from being its maiden voyage, it was an obsolete design that'd just been upgraded. Those upgrades were poorly thought out, with masts that made it unstable and new gunports that were too low in the hull, placing them dangerously close to the waterline. That, as well as a lot of the crew were non-English speaking foreign sailors, was the reason it sank. When the ship turned and they were ordered to close the gunports they didn't respond because they couldn't understand. As a result, the sea rushed into the new gunports.

The Mary Rose had led a successful career of @33 years before the sinking and was Henry V111 s favourite and his flagship. I think people confuse the maiden voyage story with that of the Titanic and the Vasa in Stockholm harbour .

The Mary Rose was not defeated except by nature. Poor overloading and confused seamanship (it is now believed that a good proportion of the crew were not British and there may have been a language problem). The admiral Sir George Carew on board apparently stated that fact to another ship.
