‘The Golden Wreck’ by Alexander McKee is a brilliant book which tells the tragedy of the Royal Charter. Alexander McKee was also the man who searched for, and found the wreck of the Mary Rose.

The Royal Charter was built at the Sandycroft shipyard and foundry on the River Dee - a little known yard that went into decline before WW1 - At its peak it employed about 700 workers - Interestingly some of the buildings still remain

Ahhhhhhhhhh They have pulled down the foundry and huge machine sheds to make way for a lorry car park - only a few support posts where the hull was crafted remain at the water edge of the River Dee

@@samjen7 There was no large nuggets, the cargo in bullion form was salvaged by the Royal Navy not long after she was wrecked , that is all that was not in gold dust form. What little that was not recovered was in the personal possession of the passengers If you believe the big scam of a few years ago by a diving outfit then you must be really thick. They found little of value except some odds and ends they had seeded the wreck with in order to con investors in the scheme
