One of my all time favorite 'stories' you hear about Tom Clancy was how often he was interviewed by the Secret Service and federal agencies about the content of his novels. That's an accolade that comes with some bragging rights when your fictional theories bare such weight that real world entities get nervous.

@@Lanse1984 Kind of. He did an incredible job researching his novels, but also got a lot of 'scoops' from 'friends in the biz' kind of thing. Being able to look at the absolute random piles of information and stitch together the bare threads into a masterclass woven rug was his gift, kind of like the first person to point at the stars from a campfire and then design the Michelangelo when the next best person was making arrows, belts and spoons.

The way he went into detail was like nothing I ever read before. In Sum of All Fears when the nuke went off, that was like half a chapter on the process of the nuke going off and how it failed to go super critical at the last microsecond. Awesome.

I understand the modern games forgo alot of what made older games with his name great but the name it's self is still on those games. I would love it if Ubisoft went back to it's older game phlisophy but they have other prioities now sadly.

I love his books, red all of them, some multiple times! Travelling as teenager, i always had a Clancy book with me. I even remember the moments when i dived into the plots and all the details. Only the Metro and Stalker series could come close to my fascination for Clancy literature 🤩

It was a fantastic idea to cover the man himself. I've always loved his work when introduced to Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. I may even start reading his first novel when I finish a book series I'm currently on.

I read "The Hunt for Red October" way back in the mid 80s before Clancy became a bestselling author and loved it. I bought and read every other Tom Clancy book for many years, but towards the end they definitely didn't have the complex and interweaving plot lines that his early books had. The Bear and the Dragon was a great example of this. But he certainly left a legacy and I still enjoy re-reading some of my favourties. Thanks for posting!

Its amazing how one person can go into one field then excel in another. Sure he started with insurance but he insurance his own universe just by being tactical in his own way. It hurt when I heard that he was gone but he lives on through his books

Thanks fro this video. I’ve been a fan of Tom Clancy minors and games since the beginning. Hunt for Red October is one of my top ten movies of all-time. I wish everyone at Ubisoft involved in TC games would read, watch, and research on the man and books as sometimes I feel, especially with the latest announcements, they some making the decisions are clueless as what the TC name stands for. The core original R6 and GR games were stamples in the genre.

two years ago, a kind old man passed away in my building. Couple days later his daughter called me saying that she wants to talk to me. I've never met her and I didn't know the old man personally but I was always kind to him. I guess he saw something in me, idrk but his daughter said that his father wanted me to take as many books as I want. I was like sure cause I like reading at the time. Bros, i kid you not, this man had a lot of books, like a lot. When I was looking at the books he had I found two books that were interesting. I saw Tom Clancy Executive Order and Rainbow 6. I was like, hey I know that name, its from the games I used to play. I took Executive orders but let a friend of mine take R6 because........idk. From then on i stop reading but when I got more into the lore of the Division so I bought both New York Collapse and Broken Dawn. I finished NYC but not BD but now once I'm done taking down BK I will move on to Executive orders. :) Thank you Tom Clancy.

I really enjoy his books. Just finished this book. Cross Kingdom, The Shiva-Gate Conspiracy, written by Reece McKnight. It is action packed and a true page turner. Highly detailed you will be hooked. The book can be found on Amazon and Lulu.

Remember playing Rainbow Six for hours on end, most of those hrs involved the planning. Probably the most difficult levels were the intel grabs or planting a bug where you could not shoot anyone and could not get caught. Those damn levels were absolutely nerve racking. I would even have nightmares about them.

I was a weird kid. I remember being on restriction (from tv, friends etc.) and curling up with Red Storm Rising and falling in love with reading novels. I was probably 13 so this was 1996ish. Thanks Tom!

When i first read a Ton Clancy book I loved it, then I few years later I starting play Tom Clancy games the game i first game i played was division and i still play it to this day, and Keep up the great work, you always make my day when you upload thank you.

1998’s Rainbow Six! First and ONLY Clancy game I’ve EVER played since he ENTERED the genre/market. I can NOT forget it, still haven’t played since then. Yet, it’s part of the fonder days of my youth, memorable, and takes me back when I hear the name. CRAZY to hear and realize he never made it into the military in any branch! He might not have been the ideal soldier with sight issues…. Yet if he would’ve been deployed into active duty with that kind of passion…. I’m sure he’d have died a LEGEND on a battlefield.

Another author who gets into detail in military matters, and teases out a story rather than having a Hollywood "Jason Bourne" type running battle, is Frederick Forsyth. Another author outside the military genre who does meticulous research in the medical field, and was remarkably ahead of his time, really prophetic almost, is author and doctor Michael Crichton. I actually don't read fiction much, but a very good book, that was published just before Putin's invasion but describes the Russians perfectly (even presaging the superiority of US weapons) and quite well written (it does not have a Clancy type hero, in fact, all the characters are flawed anti-heroes, don't read this book if you don't like this sort of plot) is Undermoney by Jay Newman (Jan 2022).
