Great research! I recently acquired a set of Gradidge rustless irons with True Temper dark brown shafts. Remember Tube Investments acquired Raleigh, who had acquired Phillips Cycles Smethwick. Both Raleigh and Phillips advertised True Temper steel frames, so who owned the trademark? Sadly, Apollo Tubes shaft manufacturer in Rounds Green, Oldbury, closed in the late 90s. I worked for a company that undertook the site clean up. All the shaft making machinery were bought by an American company who had them destroyed so they couldnt be auctioned off to Asia.

American Fork & Hoe originally owned the name, I'm not sure who does now. True Temper was used on many of AF&H's products, they made a lot of hand tools and farming equipment. That's very sad to hear about the destruction of the machinery.

I emailed them with the query, maybe the email didn't find the right department but that's the reply I got. Unfortunately I think this is what can happen when firms change hands several times, the new owners often want a clean sweep and have little concern for old records or company culture.
