The film discovers the diverse landscapes in the North of England that inspired William Turner. From the rolling hills of Yorkshire to the rugged east coast with its numerous castles and the lake district in the west, Turner found his destiny as a landscape painter as a young man in the impressive panoramas of northern England. Today's inhabitants know about the beauty of their homeland. With much regional pride they passionately cultivate the special traditions of the North.

As an Australian, finding out that driving from Manchester to Newcastle takes just under 3 hours kinda blows my mind. That’s covering a full third of the country in just 2 hours and 50 minutes. That’s wild, and I love it.

I live in the US. I think that England is tiny. About the size of my state, Minnesota.

This is like several different documentaries combined into one. I’d be interested in seeing one documentary solely devoted to the kippers, then another documentary all about the dancing and its history both then and now. Another one about those rowboat building kits, then one about those lobster fishing families. Oh, and those amazing sheepdogs. Those dogs deserve a program all of their own. At times, when they mentioned Turner, I found myself going - oh yeah, that’s right, this is a program about Turner. I’d get so invested in, for example the dancing group, that I totally forgot about Turner. When they started referring to Turner again, I thought - oh yeah, Turner, that’s right. I really would now like to know more about the industries and traditional activities mentioned within this program. 🙂🐿🌈❤️

This isnt really about Turner's art or Turner at all... its about the daily lives of people around the spots that Turner painted sometimes.

Someone from paradise restrains their breath; true Love’s presence imprisoned on their teeth. You, just about to feel it on thy neck. They back away, too scared of its release. You, busy swiping at the masquerade. They’ve seen how many people that you’ve kissed, and kiss the Masque of Red Death by mistake, who reaps them off in fevered passion’s grip. And now it’s up to us to part the crowd, and chase the handsome Red Death up the stairs as Red Death T¡nder rings and rings its bells; a soulmate’s breath releasing in despair. And from the tower T¡nder tumbles off. You never needed any mask for Love.

Has this been edited down? It feels like they might have cut out some interviews. For example, when they said that the grandfather was proud of “her”, I thought that they would cut to an interview of the grandfather talking about that. Then when they mentioned the guy that was fascinated by the smokehouse traditions, I thought that again there would be a comment from him talking about why he appreciates the kippers and the quality etc. But there was nothing, no interview, just on with the show. Is it just me? Probably, but I’m not sure.

A bit of clickbait here 😉 Which is surprising considering this brand typically delivers the good & then some when it comes to art docs.

I thought this would be about Turner's painting in north England, it's not, more of an excuse to promote the area's industrial, cultural, and tourism industries.

It's not even 15 mins. into the film and there's more than 100 super annoying ads. This is unwatchable.

This is more about the makers than about Turner. May conceptionalism soon dissapear.
