How excessive irrigation in Thar desert is affecting monsoon? Answer : Role of the Thar desert is to attract the Arabian sea branch of south-west monsoon winds towards the northern plains of India. This leads to rainfall in northern plains. But now Thar desert is shrinking because of excessive irrigation so it will affect the rainfall in northern plains.
