I was born in Chicago and my family moved to Birmingham, Alabama. We moved back to Chicago in 84’. I was 10 and what an amazing time to be in Chicago. House music was alive, the Bears were dominating and Michael Jordan had just signed with the Bulls. Then a few years later Hip Hop enters into the golden era. What a time to be alive!

I was only 10 when jack your body hit number 1 in the UK (1987). It was the first single I ever bought for myself and Ive been hooked on house ever since. I made the pilgrimage to the old warehouse site in Chicago in 2011. It was raining and I stood under a tree on the opposite side of the road, trying to imagine what it was like back in the day.

I am so glad I was in my early teens when this genre of music started. I started going to the Paradise Garage in 84 - 85, and it was absolutely amazing. I was hooked the very first day I went. All these songs were played there, but what I loved to hear most were the Disco classics. I was in heaven listening to those songs through that incredible sound system. It was just an incredible experience.

Underground, plain & simple. Kids today think they know house from listening to some nowadays EDM. Absolutely because they don't know what we know, they haven't been where we've been, felt what we felt; us oldies are the roots. It's my culture & I'm so proud to say I am a HouseHead4Life. Ever since House Nation by The Housemaster Boyz came out I was hooked (at 11 years old). Thank heaven for House 🙏 it's got me through, as it's my one true constant & of course, RIP ✝️ Frankie Knuckles 😢

Growing up in the NYC metro area, I remember going to the clubs at 14\15 years old in the late 70's early 80s. It was life changing, the sound, the vibe, etc. I became a dj because of these experiences. I remember going to club zanzibar in newark and hearing some of the deepest house music on the planet. We've had a lot of good dance music this century, but to me, the 80's and 90's were the golden era of house.

House music never evolved into hip hop. Hip Hop was birthed and created way before House music. In the late 60's and early 70's. Hip Hop and House music is there own separate genres of music. House music may have evolved from Disco music after 1976 -1977. House music evolved out the disco era into a more progressive sound of Black grassroots party clubs

@@opalivy739 You make good points, but house and hip hop ain't all that distinct. Just really depends on how you look at it. Despite house have came from disco, disco was heavily influenced by funk, soul, Motown, etc. With that said, house have very strong influences from gospel, soul, funk, etc. Now some folks have said "Motown didn't create house"!!!!! Well that's not what's being said. We're saying Motown had a influence on house music along with sounds from Moroder. FBA all day, everyday🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼!!!!! Akin.

@@firedragon2502 I'm FBA 🇺🇲 as well. I live in Chicago and was there and on the scene actively. When House music was birthed and created when I was a teenager during the early 80's. 82' 83'. The majority of the DJ's featured in this video. I either knew them or followed them at their party scenes back in the day. I know how House music was created, developed, and invented. It took off right away especially at the juice bars, underground parties, gay clubs, and WBMX Friday's night hot mix 5.

Huh? Music is music, and it should be shared with all. Creating that 'Us and them' will make it worse in the long term.

Disco preceded house. House continued the vibe. Electronic underground/experimental music carried it further.... then music became overtly greed/corporate driven, and things died down..... Yet, the music continues......
