The other day I dropped something at work and audibly said "fuck" and my co-worker looked at me shocked and told me they've never heard more swear before. It took me aback a bit, because I don't actively avoid swearing, and I swear all the time to myself. But it made me realize I never really do it in conversation with other people. Which must give the impression that I don't like it, but I don't really care. Unless you're one of those people who swears like every other word. That's just a bad use of the English language.
@ninomaeputanginanis-kfp2 жыл бұрын
I can believe that Fauna just doesn't swear ever even off stream. I think you can judge a person pretty easily if they're just holding back or not. Another example is Ina who just doesn't have it in her nature to swear. Meanwhile, Mumei and Irys are definitely holding back while Gura used to but now just said "fuck it". Then there's Ame and Tenchou who can't go for 5 minutes without cursing your entire family to death lol

Mine was a similar story. In middle school, my brother and I knew the other swore, so, to keep it fair, we kept count of how many times we said each word. Unfortunately, we got mad at each other one day and ratted each other out. To this day, I don't swear JUST so that it can't be used against me. Plus, it's a good habit to not have because even in heated moments, swear words aren't an option. I do confess that I've typed swear words online, though. Not sure if that disqualifies my whole rant...

She obviously thinks it. And she's a person that doesn't *quite* naturally speak her mind as it flows (unlike a certain shark, for contrast). She can still lose herself in a stream of consciousness, but there's still some articulation that happens there. So there's a robust filter in place. But it's good to keep a few choice words in reserve. If you're just annoyed or flustered, there are other ways to express yourself. And if you make a habit of cursing freely, then when you really need to convey something intense, it just won't land with as much impact. On the other hand, if you're not known to curse, people will stop and take notice when you finally drop one.

I relate to both of them I never swear in my native language, but there was a time when I was just a kid and I started imitating my relative after I hear them say a swear word, I didn't even know it's meaning but just to tease them, I imitated it. My relative was feeling embarrassed about this so I used that word ever more and eventually I said it in front of my parents but they knew I only did it because I picked it up from my relative, later they explained that the word was bad and I should never say it. It's nice that they were polite and understood the whole thing. But in English, I tend to use swear words every once in a while but mostly only when chatting If English was my native language, I don't think I'll ever swear. Kiara was right on that. I think it's easier to swear in other languages outside your native language because you fully don't grasp the meaning and it just sounds cooler.

I had a somewhat similar story, but during freshman year of high school. I had two groups of friends who didn't really gel together that I alternated between. One group swore like sailors, the other never swore. I, personally, had not yet started swearing because of my upbringing, but I was starting to pay attention to things like that. I believe I said a few swears while with group one, but it felt... weird to say. After some introspection, I realized I was only even considering doing it to try and fit in better with group one, despite the fact that they never actually tried to get me to do it. So I just kinda stopped, and never got into the habit. None of my friends from group one ever commented on it either, which was a relief. The only times a swear word would come out of my mouth after that was during college, when I would quote something with a swear in it. But even then, it felt strange and it didn't take long for me to stop doing that too. Nowadays, I either self-censor the quote, or just don't say it all. EDIT: I should say, that I will write characters that swear when doing RP or just writing my self-indulgent little story bits. I just don't play characters like that during D&D, where I would need to say it out loud.
