Also grew up on the lake hearing stories of the church steeple that was said to be visible from the surface at one point. The water was definitely clearer back then when I was swimming around but I never saw it with my own eyes. Story goes you could hear the bell ringing on particularly calm and quiet nights ha. Very grateful for this video, it was cool to see the old photos. I miss the lake region a lot

I have heard people locally talking about the steeple above the water and rumors of hearing the bell ring. I would love to interview someone that actually saw it. Today the water is murky and visibility is limited to a few feet underwater.

Back in 1971 I was walking around fishing the lake from the shore and docks and some man walked up and started talking to me. He told me he was there when the lake was being filled after the dam was built. He said how clear the water was and there was a lot of stuff floating on the water like tree branches etc. I heard there was a church that wasn't torn down before the lake was being filled. You could see the steeple through the water. I wish I could go back in time and ask the nice old guy more questions. The nice guy didn't kick me off of his dock.

I heard the same thing, that there was a church standing when the lake was filled as well as a bridge underwater still intact. Some of the guys on the local dive teams probably know more about what is still down there.

I have also heard the same ☺️ also heard random things surfaced for quite some time afterwards.. not sure how true that is but definitely interesting to think about 💭

I love this (and all the historical videos you’ve made)! I grew up in Paupack, on Rt. 507 until I settled in the Portland, Maine area in the late 90’s, but I’ll always consider Lake Wallenpaupack to be “home”. I’m so thankful for videos like this one, which instantly bring me back to some of the best times of my life! Thank you for all your great videos and PLEASE keep up the great work!

We love the area! Would visit the Cove Haven Pocono Resort. Heard the story about a church at bottom of the lake and you could see the steeple through the water. Beautiful area!

The map of the area before it was flooded is fascinating. Do you have a link to where I can see the full map?

Laura, at which point in the video (time)? I may have a full map that I can post.

Interesting video. Just curious what's the name of the musical piece used at the beginning?

I'll see if I can find the piece of music we used at the beginning.

Is there a map showing where the foundation are located on the lake
@WallyLife4 жыл бұрын
There was some side scan sonar that showed some of the existing foundations and the remains of a bridge. In our research, we didn't find a map showing the town layout or buildings.

I have the GPS coordinates to all but 3 foundations! Think I got 12 or 13 of them ! And the roads ! Good for tournaments! Stone and wood foundations are down their !

Love watching the videos, however, you need to lower the volume of the music. It is very distracting and makes it very hard to hear the narration. Music shouldnt be overpowering as it is in many of these videos.
