The key to understanding this movie is what "Abby" says when they found her after she ran away from the birthday party. She needed to escape her painful reality, and Rose saw an opportunity to help an abused child by embracing the child's fantasy; while at the same time, healing her past memory of her sister. I think that's it, but not really sure. Lol.

This was a wonderful movie! For those who are confused about who Abby really is, what the doctor saw on her back and on the x-rays... Because trust me, I was confused too, but this is what I found after searching: "Abby has been abused, and is now on the run, fearful of being taken back to her abusers. On two occasions she attempts to run away from Maggie’s care because she is fearful of being taken away and returned to an unsafe situation."

i feel that the grandma was near death and abby knew. the grandma was seeing her before she materialized. it was hard for abby to be in solid form cause it was easier to disappear. abby was caught in between worlds. cause she didn't want to grow up. at the end i think she finally wanted to. that's why she couldn't fly only run fast.
