This is one of the most interesting part of modern Korean history. Finally some lights shed on this event. There are some Korean movies and dramas that predated K-drama boom. Those are definitely worth watching. Common answer that is widely accepted answer is that it was due to personal rage but it's still somewhat mysterious. There is famous quote about this assassination. 'This was too emotional to be a deliberate coup and too deliberate to be a result of rage' We still do not know to this day and will never have full picture of what was happening inside the brain of Kim Jaegyu forever.

I wrote an essay in high school comparing the murder of Park Chung-hee by Kim Jae-gyu to the murder of Mr Park by Mr Kim in the film Parasite. I argued that the assassination in 1979 was such a huge event it had to have inspired Boon’s film, and that, even if 30% of Koreans have the surnames Park and Kim, the two families in Parasite were named for the President and his killer. It made sense to me because the reason why those surnames are so popular is because working-class people had to adopt a surname in the 19th century, and names that originated from Chinese royal dynasties (like Park and Kim) was a way of making yourself seem more well-off than you were. The film’s ending at its core reflects the metaphorical significance of the working poor lashing out at not just the rich and arrogant, but at the entire neoliberal, rigid class system that dominates South Korean society. Both Kim’s shot “at the heart of the Yushin constitution”; both killings were an act of self-sacrifice, even if there was pettiness beneath them.
@sharpasacueball4 ай бұрын
Park and Kim surnames do not originate from Chinese royal dynasties. Also, I think it's a bit of a stretch to call the killing in Parasite by the dad a "self-sacrifice"
@joonhojung77654 ай бұрын
Park and Kim do not originate from those retarted Chinese in the 19th century. Do your research first before writing an essay. The surname Kim in Korea originated from back in the days of Shilla dynasty, not from China durning the 19th century.

Anybody who s has done business in Korea, lived there for a while knows there's a bit of a difference in how things are done. Westerners unfamiliar with korea probably cannot comprehend . As for the theory that the assassination was spontaneous and ill planned , in Korea, people tend to act very spontaneously, spir of the moment , decisions are made at the last minute . And w e l l , it is often the case that plans are not w e l l thought out . President park himself was japan educated , he carried out a coup de tat successfully.
