Striga (Strzyga) was the name of one of the female vampires from the third and fourth seasons of the Castlevania animated series. She had a thick northeastern European accent.

Reminds me more of the Tah-tah-kle’-ah, a similar cannibalistic Owl Witch from Native American mythology.

In Albanian. Folklore a shhtreega pronounced like u see it! Shtreega is a witch, she only comes out at night and she turns into an old lady and tricks u by making u feel bad for her and luring u towards her! It’s also just the term to call someone evil or a witch! “Ty je shtrige” you are a witch! Interesting to see how other cultures see it almost the same but different

Divine judges: For the numerous sins you committed while alive. Some of which are too horrible to mention. Your punishment is to become a bloodthirsty monster. Murderer: YEAH!!! Mortals: Umm we don't think that is a good idea.

Could Strzyga evolve from myths of Strix? They shared a lot traits. Being Evil Birds creatures the feast on human blood and flesh.

Strzyga is possibly cognate from the romanian "strigoi", which is also an undead/vampiric being that feasts on flesh and blood, but the differences are is that it also shapeshifts and turns invisible; "striga" means to scream.

I am from Eastern EU and I never heard this kind description of striga. Stringa is old (mostly) or young women which can make herself look young too. Know magic. Flies on broom. Sometimes changes to bird. But mostly changes others to other objects. At least that’s what I heard in our country 😀

It is quite surprising to find that there are many legends involving old women or witches who have the ability to transform themselves into birds. For example: Voladora Penchapechi Raven mocker and La lechuza It's like ancient people were very afraid of birds. So there made scary legends about them.

1:10 I never like mythology stories where evil people who have done so much bad die and basically come back a super monster version of themselves to do more evil things...........how does that even make any sense.
