has seen a falling star, also known as a shooting star. I confess, I sincerely believed such was the case that these were, in fact, stars - much like I believed in Santa Claus. But then I heard the shocking truth: these are not, in fact, stars. When peering into the sparkling emptiness of the night sky,I watched as another meteoric body, for the umpteen-billionth time, tried to ram through the earth's atmosphere. This happens constantly, day in and day out. Millions of cosmic bodies hurl themselves
towards the surface of our planet every day.

vlogs Alherini : It depends which KZbin vids you watch. This is a great channel but there are some on KZbin that beggar belief! Look up any Flat Earth vids for example and you'll see what I mean. More disturbingly are the amount of comments those vids get from people who start to actually believe it (and Flat Earthers' vids are just the tip of the iceberg).
@johnnys6073
@johnnys6073 6 жыл бұрын
Vlogs Alherini, Yeah Paul Neave is right. Be careful because Flat Earth believers are one of the stupidest people on the planet. They cant even understand that a airplane flies a curved path that is straight in conformity of the curvature of the earth. That's how stupid they are, then they say the earth is flat. If it were flat then why would an airline need to waste so much fuel if they could just fly a straight line right? Ooooh what irony for these pathetic Flat Earthers. There are countless factual evidences that the earth is NOT Flat so if you have run into any Flat Earth videos be careful because they sound really convincing at first but once you understand true science you will see all the many flaws that don't add up in their arguments. Cheers!

Jonny S : I heard a line a of dialogue from TV which has stuck in my head. Can't remember the show and at the time they were actually referring to fundamentalist Christians but it works for Flat Earthers too (who are mainly, if not exclusively, made up of fundamentalist Christians anyway) :- if you could reason with these people, they wouldn't be flat earthers (or 'insert stupid belief system here')

Rocwell Edwards -- Mistake: It's his mispronunciation of "the luminosity" that's the problem. Instead of correctly saying "thuh luminosity" he says, "thee luminosity." Sounds like "thuh illuminosity." There are a lot of "thee" sounds (for the) where they don't belong, and a lot of "ayy" sounds (for a) where they should be "uh." Must be ebonics, or just ignorance.

Anyone living in socal/ LA area is lucky to even see a star, let alone shooting starz. I was lucky enough to travel a lot as a kid, and be able to see shooting stars, many many of them, meteor showers ect.. I then grew up and got into photography and shoot photos of the milky way long exposure... but places that re dark enough on a clear sky the correct time of the year, and you'll be able to very clearly see our galaxy with the naked eye. . It so beautiful and awe inspiring I cannot imagine not having seen it ever before. I feel for y'all that have yet to experience a full night sky of stars. It's breathtaking.

About 10 years ago I went on a late night bicycle ride through a nearby park. All of a sudden the sky lit up a bright blue, everything around me illuminated and it felt like daylight. Right when I look up a massive object bullets through the sky. The whole event probably lasted 3-5 seconds but it felt much longer. Don’t expect to experience that again but it was beautiful.

IKR? When he starts out with 'I confess I thought falling stars were just like the stars in the sky...' WHAT? You thought the freakin' stars were falling out of the sky? Did you know the Sun was a star? I mean, was he living in a constant state of alarm like 'holy crap, if these stars keep falling it's only a matter of time before one of them vaporizes my city/town/yurt!'? I'm really glad he looked into this and cleared it up for himself and shared it with us, in case there's anyone else out there who is living in a similar state of astronomical ignorance.

The universe makes you realize how special life is. So much can and does go wrong it's amazing we are even here! Stars running into each other, needed stability of the star (Not too big not too small) black holes, distance of planets to their star, steady orbits of other planets, composition of the planet's, needed magnetic fields, plate techtonics, hydrocarbons, water, a Jupiter to catch the meteors and astroids, and needing to live in the boonies of your galaxy! If any of these things are off, life can end or not even start. It's actually pretty terrifying. A well placed gamma ray burst and issa wrap! 🤤

Well we dont know if life is special at all. Since we Abiogenesis is the most likely origin for life chances are very big that life is all over the universe. Then when you look at planets in the habital zone, just for this galaxy there are an estimated 20 billion planets. And thats just for life as we know it. Seeing life in the most inhabital places on earth its not crazy to think it could exist outside aswell. Now intelligent life.. thats a different story. First its not necesarily the case evolution has an intelligent being as an outcome. Then there are many extinction events etc etc. pretty much what you said. But as we know from earth we had many extinction events and yet life found a way.
@OMGitsTerasu

maybe talking about intelligent life. But based on abiogenesis and evolution, and the fact that this small gallaxy already has an estimated 20 billion planets in the habital zone (and its thought that life could exist outside the habital zone aswell like Europa for example or titan) chances are incredibly big that life somewhere exists now. I'm just not convinced thats intelligent. And maybe other life hasnt started yet or already went extinct. Sure.

It's due to how KZbin algorithm work. the like or dislike is not treated differently by the algorithm. Every tick up or down is considered an interaction. As well as comments are considered interactions. If you go onto a video and dislike it and post how bad they are, as far as the system is concerned, it's identical to a thumb up and good comment. The more interactions a video gets, the more people it will get recommended too.

Trè PBG ...I'm so glad they are not! About 5 minutes into it, I wanted to cut off my ears...Very annoying, and I don't think the guy ever took a breath...

"The brightness of Mira increases 3.5 times in just 332 days..." (from AbsMag 10 to 2) 4:32 Surprised that nobody on the staff picked up this mistake. The apparent magnitude scale is not linear, but logarithmic. 10 to 2 is not a 3.5x increase in brightness, but rather a ~1500x increase in brightness.

Great clip! Reminds me of why so many of us love science, especially physics, and astrophysics. The more we know, the more we realize how little we know. There was a time in the late 19th through the very early 20th century, when we thought we literally thought we had the cosmos all figured out, and all there was left to do was to catalog.
