I love your transparency…I think your raw talent is the best in the game right now. As you continue to grow in mental strength, you’ll continue to rise! Even telling yourself you can’t make mistakes against a team like this, takes its compounded toll. Don’t let what could have been 1-4-1 turn into 7-1. Don’t dwell on what you can’t change…use your practice and talent to focus on every point.

Great vid and comment. “Force yourself to smile after every point” - Christian Alshon. Your analysis of the last game gives us all insight into how letting one bad shot get to you sets up a run for the other team. Thanks for sharing.

Christian, I appreciate your raw honesty. Your analysis is very revealing and informative. I especially liked the early point where you let the ball hit toward your backhand on the right side go because Thomas was behind you and could make a better play. Showed that one to the wife and dubs partner. Seems like the Johns brothers frequently start slow. Any idea why that is? Keep up the match analysis.

I think it would be great if you would explain the strategy of why you hit each shot where and when your opponent hits a shot to one location how you react. I think the detailed discussion on two or three points would be an incredible video onto itself. It also would be incredible to explain how you change your strategy based on what your opponent is doing . Thank you

@Christian Alshon - Do you believe the Johns played more aggressively in games 2 and 3? It seemed like Collin was speeding up on you guys more
@ethanhegge9 ай бұрын
I think the biggest thing i'd take away from this game more than cleaning up errors is, dink with a purpose. The John's dink to set up exactly what they want. If either you or Thomas had a twoie at the kitchen you'd have more options with the pattern they want to keep you guys in. From the same position you'd be able to roll dink, speed up line, speed up middle. At your current backhand pattern, if you two run around your backhand they load up and take a half step back to prepare for the speed up. But as soon as you dink one hand backhand, they have zero fear.
@douglasmurdoch72479 ай бұрын
Yes, I’d say the triple threat of the two handed backhand cross court dink, speed up the line, and speed up the middle is key these days.

I really really like this format of listening to an actual pro explain a game he played in but... there's a LOT of you watching and sniffing your nose and then talking about one strategy while a rally is still going on. I'd say pause when you want to explain something. And also even if a rally ends with an unforced error, it can't hurt to explain why it happened.. like maybe a strong/deep serve caused the return to be weak, or whatever. In a weird way it's almost like you havent seen this game and are explaining on-the-fly(which obviously you played the game so not your 1st time seeing it)

How much do you use your wrist for your speedups?

I’d like to understand the pregame strategy and preparation that you guys put together to counter the #1 team? I haven’t seen anyone discuss the John’s weakness and come up with a game plan as we normal see in the pro football.

Being aggressive works early against the Johns because they're slow and don't give enough credit. The problem is what happens when they finally get their act together and force you to play their slow game. At that point, mentally, you have to be willing to outdink them one of two ways. I don't know anyone who can outdink them in terms of patience and long rallies, but you see teams get sucked into that territory way too often. Instead, all you have to do is outdink them by moving them around and hitting better dinks. Stay aggressive, even when they aren't giving you a lot to work with you have to find a way to set yourself up. Choose one but do not play their game unless you're confident you can outlast them

Christian, Collin is not using a paddle with gen 3 tech. You can tell a gen 3 paddle by the noise it makes. The paddle appears to a prototype paddle l with gen 2 tech. Possibly to help Joola with marketing of gen 3 paddles.

I've mentioned this before. It's a mindset issue. You have to put everything else in the game behind you outside strategy analysis. Every point is new. Forget the past. Even if you're down 10 to 0 you can still come back. Other teams can simply be better. But you don't know that until after the game. The other team will make adjustments. They're in it to win also. That's what makes the John's brothers so formidable. They have skills and analytics. They don't give up. They have the proper mindset.

I really appreciate your match analysis, why you hit the shot--to a weak body spot, why it did or didnt work--he was on it or it was half speed and he didnt expect, what they did--fundamentals. Its easy to forget about how simple and important a strategy like good solid consistent fundamentals is and how hard it is to maintain the discipline not to hit the aggressive hard balls before they are ripe. Once a player can get the fundamental shots down it seems like a good amount of the mental discipline game is involved.
@thinksimon9 ай бұрын
Hmm... for a "strategy" video, "we are trying to be aggressive" and "crush and burn" ("shake and bake'?) is probably not enough of a strategy... Still an interesting analysis from sport psychology prospective.

I think you just have to have a goldfish memory when it comes to mistakes. Just forget about it and move on. Every point is a new point. At least I think that's the right mindset when it comes to errors/mistakes.

Proficiency in math is not important in pickleball because 90% of the game is 50% mental...🤔
