Gabe is kryptonite against the John’s brothers. Like you said, he’s totally unpredictable, not to mention tall and long.
@chea7z9132 ай бұрын
I haven't seen the match yet but I saw Ben's mixed doubles performance... if it's anything like that here then they lost because Ben was performing awful. He's just not as dominant as he used to be. He makes a lot more unforced errors and bad decisions from a lack of patience. Either he's gotten worse or people are finally closing the gap. I suspect it's a combination of both
@kosanmr22 ай бұрын
@@chea7z913 Gap is def. closing, causing Ben to take more chances, increases risk of making more errors.

So at the 3:51 mark you can see Ben Johns foot is in the "no volley" zone when he returns a volley... is this not a penalty?
@stewthemanАй бұрын
No penalty because the ball bounced in the kitchen. You can't stand in the kitchen while volleying (which means hitting it before it bounces) but you can stand in it all day long if you're hitting it after it bounces each time.

Yes as long as you don’t volley the ball. It is just a no-volley zone not a no-step zone.

@jeetkuneball9580Ай бұрын
Young players are catching up with Ben fast, at least hard for him to play 1-on-2 anymore. Collin is not improving and becomes a liability. He is no longer the benchmark or model for the right-side player. "Neo-right-side" players are more aggressive, cover more space, and are almost equal partners to the left-side players.

How much money is there in pro pickleball? We former tennis pros want to know. 😜
@TheCrimson72722 ай бұрын
90% of the game is at the dink line and dinking is more pingpong than tennis. I played college tennis and had to unlearn volleys
@williewasahippie2 ай бұрын
@@TheCrimson7272 I'd really want to knife the volleys, especially with backspin on the 1HBH. I'd attack earlier vs dinking 20 shots, waiting for the "perfect" ball as I see so many players doing.
@wafarrisАй бұрын
If you are top 5 then the money, sponsorships, appearances, and teaching can be 1M plus. Ben probably makes about $3M. Number 40 is probably not breaking even on costs.
@davevaebutuoy2 ай бұрын
@3:38, he stepped into the kitchen before the ball bounced. Isn't this a fault?
@Violuminescence2 ай бұрын
You can step into the kitchen at any time during the point, but it counts as a fault if you step into the kitchen when volleying.
@davevaebutuoy2 ай бұрын
@@Violuminescence Thanks for the education. I am new to the game, but have been wrongly waiting for the bounce in the kitchen before stepping in to play a non-volley there. I should be able to respond to kitchen drops better now that I understand the actual rule.

This is such a garbage take for a few reasons. 1) Wouldn't be uncommon for players to be able to understand strategy at a level but not be able to play at that level due to athleticism, age, etc. Ed obviously has a strong handle on the strategy aspect of the game and is clearly qualified to talk about it. 2) multiple sites disagree with your assertion of his rating
