Archer Street, Soho, was THE place in London for musicians to hang out & pick up gigs in the 40s & 50s. This 30' film features some wonderful 8mm archive footage of Soho, shot by musician Denis Rose, and with commentary - and jokes - from musicians who knew The Street well. Ronnie Scott, Laurie Morgan, Bennie Green etc. A nostalgic & humorous look back at a lost world.

Such great memories of the 60’s in Soho especially the nights at the Whisky A Go Go, Wardour Street (Ray Martine Cabaret) and seeing the ever great Georgie Fame downstairs at the Flamingo. So many more clubs where the atmosphere was exciting and new.

Excellent! First saw this back in the 1980s, and then again in the JAZZ BRITANNIA season - but lost the vhs tapes on both occasions. Really wish someone would show most if not all of that JAZZ BRITANNIA set again.

Thank you for this opportunity to see Bennie Green, whose writing I admire and Ronnie Scott whom I knew and worked for. Great to see old London scene which I've read a lot about.

Hank Shaw tried to teach me to play the trumpet when I was 11 years old,,40 years ago.Hank and my dad listened to Stan Kenton in his house .Sometimes before going to the Bull at Barnes Common I would go with Hank to see his mum . He used to take me to gigs picking up Peter King and Tubby Hayes on the way. I now play alto and baritone sax.

I think this must be 1984 because I was at the Gil Scott-Heron gig advertised outside Ronnie's!
