I practice shotokan karate and it’s quite sad to not see any shotokan in manhwas. I know it’s because of the fact that the founder of kyokushin was korean and because it’s much more popular than shotokan in korea. The amount of techniques that are found in this art is the highest and a mc with this martial art wouldn’t ever ger stale. I’m talking about the traditional shotokan, not the sport version. We have open hand neck strikes, elbows, knees, deadly punches, kicks, stomps and special grappling ( to take the opponent off balance you first use a strike and when you throw him you want him to land on his head) , chokes, joint locks and clinch. It’s the first mma. The sad part is that good teachers are rarer than diamonds, i.e. I found only one is my country and he had decoted his whole life to learning it. The caracteristic of this art is power and then speed(the sports one doesn’t care about power ).

Exactly, luckily i also found a great teacher who wasn't just a mcdojo owner. Shotokan is honestly great for everything and is an amazing gate way martial art for newbies

I want to know more about shotokan. So basically Kyokushin focuses in durability and power? While shotokan focuses in power and speed?

@@neogabriel1320 not really, the thing is that kyokushin focuses on less techniques and more sparring but because it removes head punches completely it’s quite unrealistic. Overall, traditional karate styles were originally kind of the same the thing is that since sports came around and martial arts became commercialized they had to become distinct from one another. For example I do train shotokan but also do a lot of clinch, stand up grappling and conditioning with my instructor. The thing about shotokan is that it offers you all the techniques possible so that you can choose the ones that fit you and create your personalized fighting style. It basically is mma with no rules, so there are even more possible combinations than in mma for fighting styles.You can choose on what you want to focus on more. But in general, traditional shotokan puts emphasis on power, precision, speed and durability in this order, but you can improve all at the sae time maximally if you train smart.

Also karate isn’t made for katas. Katas are made for karate. They are meant to teach you techniques to use in kumite (sparring) and then in true fights.

Successor of kyokushin karate is Hansu Seong in MANAGER Kim said that Hansu seong is seccessor of kyokushin karate

Kyokushin karate is basically karate but with muay thai conditioning all over the body

yep everywhere except the face, as Kyokushin practitioners IN MOST SCHOOLS are told never to hit the opponents face (mainly)

Boxing is not boring bro, it may not seem like it but boxing is pretty deep, especially with it's techniques, different styles, stances, and tactics. the more you train in boxing the more you realize how much you have yet to learn about the art.
