The genius of their music comes to full life in videos for sure. Like a short movie, brilliant.

Close the door Not all the way We don't understand We don't understand So don't you go and remind me I don't know a thing And some of us remember And some run out of place Can I waste all your time here on the sidewalk? Can I stand in your light just for a while? I've waited around and oh no, you are not around I made up more time watchin' you You got it down now, don't you? I wanted to understand your face So don't you go and remind me I don't know a thing And some of us remember And some run out of place Can I waste all your time here on the sidewalk? Can I stand in your light just for a while? I've waited around and oh no, you are are not around I made up more time watchin' you Watchin' you I need someone I need someone

I was, recently, talking to someone about The Strokes and they stated that they were not “that big”. Is tone implied that the quality of their music was also as low as their notoriety. What a lot of people don’t realize is that The Strokes knew from the beginning that fame was only going to bring problems. They didn’t just sign to RCA records, initially, because they were the highest bidders. They signed because they were the only ones who agreed to not making music videos mandatory. That is the reason why the videos for “Is This It” are live concert type videos. In “Someday” they never really sang, directly, into the camera. It was a multitude of footage of them practicing and drinking at a bar that was put together. They may not be as famous as some other artist are, relatively, new, but they are also never really on the news doing some, outrageously, stupid things. They are all low-key and this has all been on purpose. The consistent quality of their music stands on its own. 🫡
