Every Souls game I try different weapons out--love halberds, Claymore/Z-hander, straight swords, etc. but invariably find myself bonking around with some great hammer or other by the end game. They just hit different and are super satisfying to use. Love your stuff, btw.

Excellent build, I've actually played something similar and yes, it's incredible. I got three advices to tweak and make a bit more comfort and versatility with it: 1. Run “Wild strikes” on the main one. Reason: when you stance break someone who has hard time to get back up, literally the best thing you can do is wild strike them immediately. It just melts. Pro tip: go for R2 finisher when they get up, timing it to roll back in time. R2 finisher of wild strikes deals a lot of stance damage and you can then continue powerstance jumping to stance break again. 2. Run 12 faith and 10 arcane. It's bloodflame blade and you won't believe what it does with wild strikes, it's flame cleanse me, and it saves so often, it's bestial vitality and it makes exploration so much better, it's heal and screw royal revenants and it's the resistance buff of your choice to target current boss. 3. It's not that much a build advice, but more a playstyle: for some mobs (looking at you, imps) two-handing one of your weapons and going for guard counters can make a huge difference in comfort. Bestial vitality will cover chip damage. All in all yeah, can definitely recommend this build.

I've had this build for a while, but it got really boring to play..so I changed it later, people seem to spam that hammers are bad, but I never had this problem and they were awesome and I've got the game since launch. And they only got better. Anyway, great video , man. Keep 'em up : )

Great vid Dom, I love the dual great stars as well, having them both at +25 since halfway through my first ever run (started as wretch, strength). I'm on journey 4 now with that save and I've come to use a few things as great options for playing more or less tactfully throughout the world. Right-handed great stars has Hoarfrost Stomp while my left has flame of the Redmanes. Other than various grease options, I also really like the blood flame blade incantation. And hell ya to the talismans, I have the erdtree favor +2 and lord of bloods, as well as the dragoncrest great shield and shard of Alexander. Unless I'm fighting a boss I actually wear the black knife armor since I'm also a fan of stealth and sneaking around to surprise fools. You get bonus runes for dealing more damage to enemies when killing them so catching more off guard means they'll fall faster (seems this way at least). Peace yo

I've tried many of Dom's builds and this is the first one I agree with. Normally I use a Str/Dex build with Blood Great Omenkiller Cleaver with Blood Affinity, a good helping of Arc, very simple play style - melee with heaviest armor. But switching to the Great Stars seems to tear enemies down faster, without having to re-stat, and I like the heal-on-hit aspect as well. Good one, Dom!

I'm having a blast with the Binky Bonk Twins (ie, with Mimic Tear Ashes). Trivialises most (but not all) bosses. The standout what when I went up against Malenia, with no Rune Arc, no buffs, no crab... nothing. I was planning on just "testing the water". Fkn first-timed her, completely unexpected.

Prelate's Charge and Golden Land have have been a common AoW of choice for Great Stars for a long time now. Can definitely recommend Golden Land for the ranged recovery and damage. Worth sharing again for the newcomers and may help out those who struggle with dodging and need the survivability.

The thorny cracked tear could be a good physick too as I’m pretty sure it activates after 3 hits (1.5 jumping attacks). Rotten winged sword insignia/winged sword insignia/Millicent’s prosthesis could be good for the final talisman slot too for the same reason. Although you would really only be looking to use them for some of the tankier bosses.

2:03 , you actually need to kill a shardbearer not just a main boss (easiest one being godrick), and after that you talk to enya at roundtable hold and varre will move to the church in liurnia

What’s funny is my first time playing last year I found a great stars and fell in love cuz Morningstar but huge. Then got to new game plus and got a second one and had some fun. Stopped playing for a year. Just started again, then on my way to get it pretty early in a new playthrough, I fought the person and got THE SECOND NEW ONE! I was like oh shit it’s on. Just destroyed the game. Now I’m cracked out on serpentbone blade but I couldn’t have done it without my double great stars.

I wouldn't recommend going past 60 vigor because 60 is the next soft cap after 40 and you simply gain so little per level after that point that you're just better off using Radahn's or Morgott's great rune if you feel you need more HP. It's better to put more stats into dex for better scaling. I would honestly stick with 60 vigor, base mind, 30 endurance (soft cap), 80 strength and whatever else you got into dex or arcane depending on if you spec them occult or not. Intelligence or faith wouldn't be bad to put some points into either to give you more options and variety.

When you get to the end game/NG+ the absolute broken version of this is to use Prelate's Charge, God Skin Swaddling Cloth, and Rotten Sword Insignia. Humanoid enemies (like Malenia) get stunlocked during the entire charge, and big enemies (Like Maliketh) can't dish out damage faster than you heal it. And during the charge the bleed with prox multiple times. I don't recommend however because it takes all the challenge out of the game. At least doing this jump attack version you are taking breaks between attacks and might still need to dodge things.

I believe I ran Great Stars on my first build for the HP recovery and bleed was cool since everyone was using ROB and I don't follow the herd. Still a great weapon. v1.02-03 with a greatshield

I use a dex based jump attack build with dual guardian swordspears. Really high AR set to keen lightning or cold and the one handed moveset is also really good.

I'd love to see you make "fun" builds way more than 'OP' ones. Like Vaati's build video is by far the coolest build video on YT. The builds he makes are so unique and are guaged at playstyles / character archetypes that make playing the game engaging and fresh. There's so many builds that are "OP" for each patch and yeah while you do a s*** load of damage it's not fun to play the game when it's monotonous. I'd love to see you make builds that may not be the best but leverage certain mechanics against each other to create a really dynamic play experience

Hmm, I'm thinking of doing this build, but ditching the Lord of Blood's Exultation, as I'm unsire of how much mileage you get out of it, really - with damage that high, will the +10% matter after blood loss? Instead, I consider also going to 15 FTH for Flame, Grant Me Strength, slotting in a Fire Scorpion Charm, and instead of going Heavy, infuse it with Fire. Gonna give it a shot soon.

I have a Great Star in my current playthrough, haven't even used it. I just settled on the Celebrant's Skull as my strike weapon and got it to +5. Sounds like I wasted those smithing stones.

Slowly getting there. How high does STR need to be to benefit from Heavy Affinity? 32 Isn't even close. I tested it on a +0 Heavy Great Mace and I lose 1 AR going from nothing to heavy. (cold takes it from 181 to 237 Heavy from 181 to 180) I'll probably respec once I get the second Great Stars. At level 81, I'm sitting at 50,10,26,27,17,13,10,7 (add Godrick's Great Rune for +5 to everything). I got the Dex up to use Bloodhounds fag, but once I get the second Stars, I probably won't use it anymore, so I can drop Dex to 14. Int is where I've got it because I like to snipe things with the Horn bow. I can cast pebble when I want to (usually roaches). I may just let that go too. Faith is 10 (15 with rune), which lets me cast Flame Cleanse me & Flame Grant me Str. I'm tempted to get faith up high enough to cast Golden Vow incantation, but probably only once I've hit soft caps on Vigor & Str and have enough Endurance for whatever armor I choose.

Bleed doesn’t scale with arcane unless the weapon itself scales with arcane. Arcane doesn’t actually independently cause more bleed on this weapon since this is a weapon that scales with strength and dex, leveling up arcane won’t make any difference. Hopefully that makes sense. The only thing that increases bleed is if you level up arcane on with a weapon that scales with Arcane, or actually leveling up the weapon with smithing stones, as well as certain talismans/equipment.
