I think the main problem is the expectations that the society demands from a student and when you're studying in institutions like IIT's you're automatically into such situation that everyone is expecting too much from you that when you aren't able to match their expectations you're felt guilty and ultimately you're get into in depression and anxiety , and those who are weak emotionaly they end up doing such things

I agree with you ! A while ago I talked with myself as I am having devastating year . Wasted class 11 due to online classes and then because of distractions wasted my half of class 12 still I've not given up yet! I got 97.2% in 10th boards. So, I was trying to find that version of myself again but then I thought I could become even more better than that version. Brother, this is also true that btech students in IITs consider Mtech students as low or inferior in front of them and even make fun of them as they think the GATE exam is easy and they usually call them "Matka", I hope u know it very well. This is also not good for those students who just know how to harass/make fun of anyone. I am 2nd tier btech student and preparing for GATE EXAM and this literally hits me when i got to know about this. I know how tough the exam of GATE is.. It takes around 12 months just to complete all the syllabus (12 -13 subjects) and also for practice extra efforts we have to put for competing and get to the under 400 rank. IITs me enter karna na kabhi aasan tha aur na hoga.. This should be stopped in every IITs. I hope u would read this comment and want ur opinion as well!

i was in LLR hall. It was my 3rd year, and because of hall politics , few of the 3 rd years including me were put into the A1 block - just to demarcate us that we dont particiapte in the hall activities. And one fine day, my batch mate committed suicide on railway tracks. I guess i had this video that time or maybe i was able to speak up like you after facing the trauma . Let me tell you one more thing, neither the adminstration , nor the HAPPA or so called hall poltu wale came to give a fuck about my mental health, let alone the guy who passed. I feel like the problem is, there is no one....close. Like mentioned in the starting, there should be someone to talk to and open up to, doesn't matter if they can solve the problem or not, it's the talk that matters. And, i personally don't have any close friends to whom i can open to completely. It might be partly because of the fact, i am bad at making friends or opening up to them, and partly because (and what i blame the most) is society, and the amount of expectations and pressure on a student. The society we live in is not one which teaches us to open us about our feelings to others and even if we get those friends, we are always expected/get to meet them for only an hour or 2 a week (and i can't emphasize this enough)
