Honestly completely disagree 50% (the first half) with you calling this Mexico's stup*dity. You (and me too) are from the weird country, the USA, it's not Mexico that is weird. It is Mexico that is being normal. The USA is the only country I've heard of where people tell you their salary and report money they'll never see & that they can't see without going to jail. You don't make for example $60,000 a year. You make EXACTLY what you're allowed to keep legally per month. When I was an expat in China, we only talked about the latter figure. How can you calculate a budget for a month (I can afford apartment A, eating out x times) when you're working with FAKE USA numbers? You can't!!! I made 10,000 (example) RMB in China, I could ABSOLUTELY afford 3500 rent 4000 for food and 2500 for fun. The American way is just a headache - and is only to try to brag and make yourself look richer than you are. Terrible culture imo.

Why so much, when Mexican nationals make like $2 per day, that's $60 a month.
@TangerineTravels
@TangerineTravels 6 ай бұрын
It is a lot of money compared to what the average Mexican earns but also those numbers are pretty outdated. A salaried worker with a low paying job like a cashier makes about $19/day of work + benefits (8000 pesos per month working 25 days). The unskilled laborer who is out cleaning car windows on the street is making $71/day (5 pesos per stoplight cycle, 30 cycles per hour, 8 hours per day).

Hi Jordan, so can you clarify something for me. I've always heard that a low wage salaried worker in Mexico makes $10-15 a day(like a cashier at OXXO or a worker in the Mall for example. But you are saying they make closer to $20 a day now? My friend who lives in Mexico said most people try to start their own business, sell tacos, a restaurant, or something like that, because they say working for someone else will never make you a decent wage, unless you are a Professional with a Degree. @@TangerineTravels

I married a Mexican and was able to get Residencia Temporal 2 years and now I'm eligible for Residencia Permanente. With a Residencia Temporal, I'm allowed to get a 2 year Temporary Import Permit (TIP) for my American vehicle, but Residencia Permanente does not allow for TIP at all. So, a Residencia Permanente has to either Import the car, which now makes the vehicle illegal in America or buy a vehicle in Mexico. In conclusion, a Residencia Temporal is a better fit for me. However, though there are work around, you can't stay in Residencia Temporal forever.

20/30 years ago Mexico was a very viable cheap option for American's to retire too. Those benefits have eroded badly over time for a variety of reasons. As for now it's scraping the bottom of the list of viable places to retire.
@hoppeanofasgard1365
@hoppeanofasgard1365 6 ай бұрын
I disagree, if you choose a cheaper Mexican town that's not a tourist destination, then you can still live nearly as cheaply as some of these so called "cheaper" latin American countries like Ecuador or Guatemala. The only two countries I know of in Latin America that are definitively cheaper than anywhere in Mexico is Nicaragua and Colombia, but they have enormous downsides to living in them compared to Mexico. For instance in Colombia crime is higher, and not just any crime but crime that effects everyday people, in fact expats seem to be targeted the most. Where as in Nicaragua where as it's decently safe, there's just not a whole lot to do there, it can get boring very quickly unless you're just a total beach bum or nature lover, also the the poverty in Nicaragua is so severe it might make you feel uncomfortable depending on your personality. To make matters worse in the case of Colombia, it really depends on where in Colombia these days, because even though most of the country is still indeed cheaper, if you choose to live in Medellin you're not going to find it any cheaper than a Mexican city half it's size, and if you choose to live in El Poblado, the wealthiest part of Medellin where most expats choose to live, you're going to see prices for things almost as expensive as some US cities in that area, but it's actually very hard choosing to live outside of that area because the quality of the neighborhoods and the safety of them drop off a cliff in other parts.
@Wistundra
@Wistundra 6 ай бұрын
@@hoppeanofasgard1365 Agreed ! Every country has it's plusses and minuses. I've been living in Medellin for 4 years now and am mostly familiar with Medellin. This is a large city and like every large city it has good places to live others places that need to be avoided. As far as Poblado is concerned, I avoid it, same as El Centro. Especially at night.Poblablo is the tourist draw and not the place to live for me. I'm on the other end of town, Sabaneta, things are much cheaper there including rents.Very little crime also. The main draw here for me is the climate, no need for heating and A/C.

@@Wistundra Well, good luck with that, I know parts of the city are beautiful and all, eternal spring and all that, but to me Colombia was just to rough around the edges. I tried it out for 2 months and was like this place is a bit much. since then, I've herd tons of horror stories coming out from there, especially in Medellin so I know it's getting worse. I suppose if you keep your wits about you and you know what to avoid you might be ok, but man, you got got to have some balls to live in a place that's outside of expat areas there.

@@nesttesters1336 Good move! Colombia is to dangerous now, it had a brief period where things were looking like they would get better but honestly all the crime was boiling right under the surface and waiting to come out, people seem to have a short memory and don't recall that prior to 2012 or so Colombia was not a good place to be AT ALL. it's just returning to it's roots, that's it. That being said I've heard you can live relatively safely in Bucaramanga, but egh, the country has issues. bad infrastructure outside of cities, motorcycles everywhere you have to watch out for, and I do mean EVERYWHERE. Good luck to those that choose to make it their home but it was just a bit much for me and I visited it in 2020 when things were more tame! Wouldn't set foot in Medellin today unless it was just a weekend trip in El Poblado. People for whatever reason also seem to think they have to go to Colombia or Ecuador to get that year around spring time temperature, but it's just not true. Queretaro and San Miguel de Allende offer the same thing.

The requirements to obtain the residency in Mexico is no different than to acquire the residency in the US, unless of course your an illegal…. Back in the good old days my family became residents by my Dad having a job offer in the US as an expert in his field, a steady income, also it was required some sort of military realease from Mexico (thankfully he was in a military scholl in Mexico). and an extensive backgroun check. Who do you think you are to think that you can just cross over and stay in any country?

Also something I find odd is that they don't care if this source of income ends the day you actually move to Mexico. I might have a great job wherever I'm from, but if it requires me to show up somewhere everyday, that income ends completely when I leave to Mexico. Wouldn't a $2,500/month pension or passive income source be infinitely more valuable than $10,000/month employment income if you are assessing someone's ability to live independently in Mexico?

I've had apartments in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Cancun as a tourist. $200- $800 a month. No car needed easy and cheap to get around. Medical is super affordable. Last note. For those moving down on social security why become a resident and potentially get taxed on that as well as any 401k pay outs?😉💰🤔
@williesteele4503
@williesteele4503 6 ай бұрын
Having been to Mexico more times than I cant count since 1998, I agree with you on this one. The only down side to this is you have to renew your 180 day tourist permit by going to the border or leaving the country then coming back, and the Mexican Immigration might not give you the full 180 days when you go to renew the tourist permit. Also you can't open a Mexican Bank account on a tourist permit, at least the 2 times I tried they said no, I had to be a temp. or permanant resident already, So, having a US Bank with no international withdraw fees would help a lot on the ATM charges when you take out money in Mexico.

Interesting info. I am a dual citizen but if I had to qualify for residency I wouldn’t go through that “stupidity”. It doesn’t surprise me from the Mexican government. To be fair. the US government has some insane immigration policies too. Good luck to anyone that wants to move to Mexico. My advice; stay away from tourist cities and towns. They are too expensive and some outright dangerous. There are plenty of cities with easy access to travel back to the US in case of emergencies and all the conveniences of tourist cities that are cheaper and safer. I go there every year for a few weeks just to forget about the madness that goes on in the US. Love going out for breakfast and lunch to enjoy the homemade food, and coffee and a (concha - Mexican pastry) early evening, but most of all I take long walks mid morning at the local plaza, sit for an hour to read my favorite books. It’s like food for the soul.

As a full fledged Mexican it seems very stupid to ask for a certain amount of money in your bank account but once you start think why it's just showing you can survive a couple of years if you loose your job or anything of a sort. As for as it goes for those people that are here permanently with a tourist visa that's another topic but no your not helping by buying things because most things are tax exempted.

I think your business cash flow example is a bit wonky if you are selling a bunch of widgets every month. If INM looks at gross revenue as you say, that gross monthly revenue will be offset by COGS, selling expenses, and taxes each month. So, you will on average be showing a 1500 per month average more or less, adjusted by any timing issues related to revenue and expenses. Perhaps the average will be a bit higher depending on when you do estimated tax payments relative to your immigration application. Yes, for sure it will help bolster your income but not as great as you show in the example.
