This is a banger of an old song. In the end it's just a guy who marries a woman with an adult daughter, then his dad marries the daughter. That alone is enough to make him his own grandpa. All the kids and such mentioned in the song are filling. And of course the chain of silly connections goes out infinitely in both directions. For anyone who is confused by the geneology: in short, his wife's daughter is both his stepmother and stepdaughter. Since he's father to his own mother, he's his own grandpa, ignoring all the steps.

This song is from the 40s. My grandmother had it on a Time-Life Collection of Oldies. She would play this and my cousin and I would laugh our heads off at how goofy music was. Now, many many years ago When I was twenty three I was married to a widow Who was pretty as could be This widow had a grown-up daughter Had hair of red My father fell in love with her And soon the two were wed This made my dad my son-in-law And changed my very life My daughter was my mother 'Cause she was my father's wife To complicate the matters Even though it brought me joy I soon became the father Of a bouncing baby boy My little baby then became A brother-in-law to dad And so became my uncle Though it made me very sad For if he was my uncle That also made him the brother Of the widow's grown-up daughter Who, of course, was my step-mother I'm my own grandpa I'm my own grandpa It sounds funny I know But it really is so I'm my own grandpa My father's wife then had a son That kept them on the run And he became my grandchild For he was my daughter's son My wife is now my mother's mother And it makes me blue Because, she is my wife She's my grandmother too I'm my own grandpa I'm my own grandpa It sounds funny I know But it really is so I'm my own grandpa Now, if my wife is my grandmother Then, I am her grandchild And every time I think of it It nearly drives me wild For now I have become The strangest case you ever saw As husband of my grandmother I am my own grandpa I'm my own grandpa I'm my own grandpa It sounds funny I know But it really is so I'm my own grandpa I'm my own grandpa I'm my own grandpa It sounds funny I know But it really is so I'm my own grandpa

The only piece of information you need is that he married an older widow and his new step-daughter later married his father. He is 23. Let's say the widow is 45 and her daughter is 18. Let's estimate his father's age to be 50. So, his 50-year-old father married a cute 18-year-old redhead that wasn't related by blood. Relationships by marriage that are awkward on paper are not that difficult to form because people meet by way of social gatherings, including family gatherings. Example: My husband's ex-wife was older than him. She had adult children from a previous marriage. One of these children was already a single mother herself who eventually married my husband's brother. (The age difference is only about a decade.) If my husband had not divorced his ex-wife and married me before his brother married his step daughter, my husband would have been his own in-law. To the stepdaughter's children, my husband would have been both grandpa and step-uncle simultaneously. He would have been his own "brother of a son-in-law" to himself, a relationship that doesn't have a unique name in English and wouldn't make for a very good song.

Amazingly being your own grandfather can exclude the possibility of incest. Wow.
@greybeard5123
@greybeard5123 Жыл бұрын
The traditional no-incest incest is boy meets girl and they get married. Just before marrying, they are totally unrelated. Then each of them lose a parent (usually to old age). Remaining parents start spending time together, and then they marry too. The original couple - who were totally unrelated when dating and when they married - are now brother and sister.
