wow. thank you soo much. this was really inspiring. a lot of videos I've seen just have folks playing and talking about what they are playing but you gave a brief history lesson behind the kind of music you played and you sing with riffs and runs pretty well. me myself am just a beginner and I've always had a little ear for jazz, neo soul, and classical and I really do want to take what I hear and put it to hymns but I don't want to take away from true singing in worship but I like the way you did it made me through up my hands and sing along so I guess it's okay praise God in different styles of music as long as it is respectful and gives God the Glory thank you so much

Great job, Damien... love all the variety, embellishments, riffs, etc... it's important to understand that gospel music, strictly speaking, isn't (or shouldn't be) a performing art, per se, but a means by which all the congregation is enabled to participate in praise to God... there may be too much emphasis on artistry and musical complexity that's out of reach for most... Gospel music, as such, must promote adequate attention to enabling ALL to "lift up their voices".... not just talented "song-leaders"... if the music isn't overly complex, people can lead themselves in worship.

Nice, soothing playing! I was taught in junior high music that jazz&blues evolved from gospel,.which developed from the call&response type tunes sung by black persons while they worked in cotton fields long ago. But, that was 1984, alot of gospel has been written since then! And my Eastern Canadian teacher may not have been familiar with Andre Crouch. Interesting the different styles in different regions of USA. In Canada, depends on the abilities of the music pastor what is played, but, most any guest of any style is appreciated. There are so many different beautiful 'colors' of music written by gifted persons in this world. Just a note, you will find the octave playing in the written works of Joplin in ragtime music of the turn of the 19th century.
