I don't know that much about Herzog's documentaries however, a few days ago I watched "My best fied", which is about what was it like working with Klaus Kinski. Let's not forget that while shooting Aguirre the wrath of God, he pulled a gun Kinski warning him "there'd be 8 bullets in his head, and the last one would be for him". So Kinski knew instictively he wasn't joking anymore haha.

I strongly disagree that he focuses on 'random' characters/people. Often they may be odd or overlooked for sure, but they all share the key characteristic of having an obsession.

Look, I LOVE and study Herzog - but like.. When Tarantino said that many people write a situation, and not a story that unfolds.. That kinda is Herzog.. He is aware he does not write much analytical stuff about his characters, which is cool.. but he surely writes, I think, in the end- Something closer to a situation than a full story. I might be being narrow rn in thinking / saying so.. Idk, and it doesn’t matter anyhow - but referring to his non-documentary films~

"Storyboards are the tool of the coward." He said. Even after Dr. George Miller made Fury Road with no script and only the director seeing the 5 years worth of storyboard to direct the actors.

I think Herzog would point to Fury Road as a key example of his point. If he ever gave it the time of day at all that is.

Io vidi Kinsky in un film quando avevo circa 9-10 anni rimasi impressionato .... Ringrazio Herzogh per essere riuscito a dimostrare che avevo ragione quando con amici sostenevo che Klaus era il più intenso ed inquietante attore del secolo scorso ... Gli altri attori banali mestieranti
