An ecological disaster has become a tourist attraction.
The tailings lake at Geamăna was born in 1986 when the tailings dump from the Roşia Poieni copper mine, which had previously been one of the largest in Europe, began.
The inhabitants of about 400 houses were expropriated and the waste began to cover the settlement from which today only the church tower remains on the surface.
