I do not own the rights to this song. It belongs to the Arcade Fire and their record label.
The new album, The Suburbs, came out August 3rd 2010.
Lyrics:
In the suburbs, I
I learned to drive
And you told me I'd never survive
Grab your mother's keys, we're leaving
You always seemed so sure
That one day we'd fight in
In a suburban war
You put it down against mine
I saw you standing on the opposite shore
Nobody down, the first bombs fell
We were already bored
We were already, already bored
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm moving past the feeling
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm moving past the feeling again
The kids won't be so hard
In my dreams we're still screaming
Running through the yard
And all the walls that they built in the 70s finally fall
And all of the houses they built in the 70s finally fall
It meant nothing at all
It meant nothing at all
It meant nothing
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm moving past the feeling
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm moving past the feeling into the night
I just can't understand
How I want a daughter while I'm still young
I want to hold her hand
Show her some beauty
Before this damage is done
But if it's too much to ask
If it's too much to ask
Send me a son
Under the overpass
In the parking lot we're still waiting
It's already passed
So move your feet from hot pavement
And into the grass
Cause it's already passed
It's already already passed
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm moving past the feeling
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm moving past the feeling again
I'm moving past the feeling
I'm moving past the feeling
In my dreams we're still screaming
We're still screaming
We're still screaming

I could write a 10 page thesis on this album and very possibly on this song alone. A song about growing up that literally "grows up" as you listen to it. Subtlety adding in and taking away instruments as the song carries on representing the people that come into and leave your life. The lyrics becoming more mature towards the end. The haunting vibes of the background chorus. Hands down my favorite album of all time.

this song almost chokes me up, it conjures up so much emotion of that time in 2010, I had just graduated highschool and was delivering pizzas around my local town for work. I was single, not much self esteem, but still had a whole lot of hope and positivity about the future. I look back now having graduated uni and working a 'professional' job how different is my life really. I have a great partner now but life is definitely not how I thought it would turn out. I've gone full circle and ended up back in the suburbs lol

Kanye West is actually a pehonomal musician when he wants to be. MBDTF has some of the best production on any hip-hop album...Ever. And conceptually, it was planned masterfully. Definitely check it out if you're even a slight hip-hop fan. Don't be thrown off just because it's Kanye West. I felt the same way about him too until I actually gave his music a shot. (Not his terrible collaborations with trap artists, but his actual albums. Specifically MBDTF and College Dropout.)

I'm sorry that you're experiencing vision problems, but if you read what's in the brackets it tells you what secondary school is and that's probably because you live in America and 95% of Americans are not very educated when it comes to other countries. I'm not saying they have to learn about other countries, but I'm saying that they are only 5% of the world and they don't know much about other countries.

I remember when on New Year's Eve I was in Chicago and he was in Vegas this song was playing and right when it turned 12:00 over there I sent him the longest message I've ever sent...I told him everything, everything he meant to me I remember crying of happiness and sadness happy because he was there with me...sad because I know he would go one day and unfortunately that day has come and I'm still thinking of him I miss him no matter how much I tell other I'm over him or pretend to be thinking of someone else when really it's still all about him...

I was born in the 70s, and this song touches on so many levels, I wanted a daughter and yesss alllllll the walls all the houses 🏡 they fell everywhere everything changed but in my mind we still screaming running playing our young lives were so lit, and I ran to live in the grass with the nature to the island 🌴 cause I’m moving past all of it away from the city my new life, omg this song nails it - life,,, in my dreams we are still screaming,, chills ⚡️⚡️💛

I was fourteen years old the first time I ears this in my uncle's car on a hot summer day. You think you've got a while but it flies. I'm only realising this for myself now and I am nineteen. Still feels like yesterday that I heard it in the summer heat, and this is the moment I really understood this song as a feeling and not just lyrical analaysis.
