Our 30 minute Catholic Mass today is broadcast from the Basilica’s Crypt Church and is celebrated by priests from the Archdiocese of Washington and the Diocese of Arlington, featuring sacred liturgical music with a Cantor & Organist from the Choir of The Basilica. The Christmas Mass and the Easter Mass are special one-hour broadcasts celebrated annually by the bishops of the Archdiocese of Washington and the Diocese of Arlington.
Our mission is to bring the blessings of Jesus Christ’s presence and love, through The Sunday TV Mass, to the sick and those unable to leave their homes. 12 26 2023 Good AM I do hope you all had a wonder blessed and happy Christmas SO now comes the hard work the cleaning up putting away the fine china and glassware. Getting back to some normalcy. Making sure the leftovers get made into stews and soups or given to the critters So now comes pen and paper or computer to write up our NY Resolutions. May I suggest at the top of your list start with this as your NY Resolution. It is not hard to keep, actually it is one I know we all can do and it only takes a few mins a day. It requires no exercise, no push ups, no sit ups, no running, no mental agility games, and all What only a few mins a day, and no running, no exercise, no pain or guilt? Yes OK Tom what is the resolution Say THANK YOU GOD for giving me another day to be Yours, to Love you with my whole heart and mind. To Love my family and animal friends of the land, air and seas, and all whom I meet. To do my very best in everything I do today. To always know YOU are there with me helping me when things go bad Thanks GOD for all you have and do for me since before I was even born. Thanks GOD for putting up with me, Forgiving me and never leaving my side. Thanks for showing me what Love is and how to pass it on. When the day has ended I hope I have done good in YOUR eyes and let us all have a good sleep and to be back tomorrow to say Thank You GOD. Pax+ thomas

I am wondering why the mass in the lower church is shorter (29 min) than the mass in the upper church (1 h 22 min livestreamed), can someone explain? I am looking at the leaftlet from december 31st, and it looks like they skipped the communion part in the lower church.

George, Great question. The Sunday TV Mass is a broadcast recording meant to fit into a 30 minute TV time slot, which is filmed in the lower crypt church at the National Shrine. The livestream is broadcast live at noon from the upper church every Sunday, It is not intended to fit into a pre-recorded time frame, therefore is not edited for that purpose.
