Who are the "chief priests" in Mark 14:10? There is only one high priest in the Hebrew scriptures, the Tanakh. Is this a made up term in the New Testament?

It is true that Chief Priests is a New Testament concept. Knowing how people are and their desire to have a title, it is no surprise they would invent titles to enhance their status. I would direct you to 1 Peter 24:4 "You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. 5 And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God." Because the Old Testament Law is no longer in effect, God redefines what a priest is to include all who will follow the Son of God, Jesus.

@@pastorstan3720 Thank you, I would refer you to: Ezekiel 37:24 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995) “My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd; and they will walk in My ordinances and keep My statutes and observe them. G-d's covenant with the jewish nation will never end regardless of your belief in replacement or dispensation theology.
