I really love that we get to hear Vex say that they should wait for her brother! In the campaign, we hear Laura ask to roll to check for traps, but Taliesin says that Percy opens the sarcophagus at that exact same moment. It's a small thing that gets overlooked because Laura's voice is quieter, but I love that we have a version of that reworked here, with Vex thinking of her brother right before the trap sets off.

Percy brought up the sarcophagus, Percy egged on Vex to open it, and Percy set off the trap by reaching for the armor. Even worse, he can't even say that he couldn't have known, because he did all three despite being told by Vax this could set off deadly traps... which is exactly what happened.

Vex had checked though (in campaign). I also don't think that the enchanted curse would have been found with a find traps check. It is an amazing moment.

I just want to point out that the Sphinx scene in the last episode was not just pointing out their flaws but also a bit of foreshadowing. ▪︎ Vax depends on his sister = had to deal with Vex dying ▪︎ Percy self-loathing = the guilt of causing Vex's death But there are other nuggets there. To gain her father's love, Vex might need a little help from her friends. Keyleth would do something big in season 3 and 4. And Scanalan? You'll see.

Such a great adaptation from original to animation. When it happened in game, it caught EVERYBODY, even MATT, off guard when Laura casually said she was down. No spoilers but frankly, this event is what sets the real main character plot driving the entire campaign into motion.

Even though I know it is extra work, thank you Wendy (or possibly Dustin) for including the clip from the campaign to show the final moment. Yes, as we all know in D&D, or roll playing games in general, sometimes when your dead, it doesn't really mean you are dead. Just like in the movies when they have an off screen death, if I didn't see a character sheet getting ripped up, I refuse to believe they are truly dead.

It's been a year and there are a ton of comments so someone may have already posted this...BUT the production decision in this episode to only have music playing in the flashback scenes until the very end of the episode is incredibly detailed and serves to heighten the tension and absolute heartbreak. When the music swells with the mixing of the flashback and current scene at the very end will give me goosebumps until the end of time, no matter how many times I watch the original actual play scene or this episode of TLoVM.

What do you think of not having the Beholder fight from the live show? Also not having Kash and Zara there when Vex dies, is an interesting move for the show. Cause since Pike was not there (on the live show at this time) Kash is the one that revivifies her.

Personally, I hope Kash and Zahra rush back into the room at the start of the next episode and Kash is involved into reviving Vex, because they were strong allies to Vox Machina in the campaign and that's a good place narratively where they could evolve from antagonists to friends.

I haven’t seen critical role so I don’t know what happens next but I really hope Vex isn’t actually dead. She’s my favorite character and I love her so much. The ending of this episode was really emotional. Vax’s crying was so sad. I loved the flashbacks they showed us of Vex and Vax. It showed the bond that they both have with each other. This entire episode was emotional to be honest. I also really loved the fight scenes in this episode.

Grog is half stone giant, a race that can't grow facial hair. Hence, his excitement at growing one from the Belt of Dwarven Kind. It also lets you read Dwarfish, but Grog's Int of 6 is too low for him to read.

Debatable. I've seen people argue that since it's the magic of the belt that allows the wearer to read Dwarvish, whether that character can ACTUALLY read is irrelevant. After all, it's magic. Magic can allow people to do things they wouldn't normally be able to do. In Grog's case it should allow him to read Dwarvish. I don't know what the "Official Rule" is, but that argument makes sense to me.

Several things make them superior to regular movies,no actors all real, anyone can do it all you need is iPhone, true & real stories not fake or make believe, also when done well you wind up with I feel the greatest movie ever “ The Pharmacist” and it’s all real, true ,no actors or special effects. A small town pharmacist’s son is murdered in a drug deal, and how he solves the case & ultimately changes the world by putting Big Pharma out of business. Incredible story & filmmaker. & the whole movie was done for peanuts

Ashley Johnson only WISHES Pike could have turned her armor on and off in the campaign. Pike being horrible at stealth because of her armor was a recurring gag. At one point, she commissioned Gilmore to make her some stealthy armor, but then Gilmore's was destroyed in the Dragon attack before she could pick it up.

Even if you think this will turn out okay, it leads to something that is completely irrevocable within all D&D rules: every D&D spell or power that brings back someone from beyond death requires that the soul is "free and willing." That is, they must be willing to return, and they must be free (not obligated or sworn to a deity) to do so. The only ability that *might* be able to get around this or even delay it would be a very carefully worded "wish" spell, which requires an extremely high level caster who's personally willing to risk a great deal to even make the attempt.

They both are. Vax has always been the dependent one in terms of staying together, while Vex was very independent but jealous of anyone who could hold her brother’s attention. Vex also did need her father to approve of her, while Vax hated him more than anything in Exandria. In the first season they showed how Vex didn’t think a “silly little Druid girl” was up to her brother’s standards, which was in part due to Vex being, tbh, a bit shallow and dismissive of anyone but her brother. Vax was always very jokey and silly and more honest and heartfelt, I think. With Vax, you can have an honest conversation at the end of the night - Vex takes years to open up. Even in this episode you can see how Vex can get mad and leave and all, but at the end of the day she loves her brother so very much, and the two of them have been through so much shit together. This moment changed everything in the campaign, truly did.

I frankly think that while Vax did bear the brunt of a lot of physical bad shit that happened in their lives while Vex charmed and winked her way through.... he did want to protect her emotionally. And Vex never hesitated to point an arrow to anyone who hurts Vax. It's an interesting point, tho.

She's protective of him because she knew after that moment as kids how desperately he needed her- she knows he's codependent, and wants whoever he loves to be Perfect to be able to carry that. He's protective of her because he can't live without her. Only now, after the dragon attack, his anxiety about that is way up.

Also in the episode before Whitestone Vax: "Fuck father and Syngorn. Whole place nearly broke us." Vex's words "but it didn't because we stuck together we didn't get distracted by pretty things." Initially a barbed comment directed at Vax's burgeoning relationship with Keyleth. Now recontextuslised as the memory of the shattered elven Artefact that led to them leaving. And that reversal Vax was protecting Vex not because she needed protecting but because he could not bare to be apart from his twin. The irony bring in this episode Vax exudes caution at every turn while Vex gets distracted by pretty things and now they are separated in the most brutal way possible.

Not so fun fact: Vex had 41 HP at this time and the trap dealt 56 points of damage. Killing her instantly.

I believe that the trap/spell also reduced maximum hp by the same amount. So, if your max is 0, you cannot "heal" at all, i.e. *dead* .

Will the show give Pyke an opportunity to show the growth we saw last season or will they use it as an opportunity to redeem Kash/Zahra and introduce us to Kash's wife/deity?
