THE SUPER CLEAN Top Rope Solo Method!

Can we make our last weeks episode Even CLEANER!?
YES WE CAN! In this weeks episode you guys gave me an idea to double up our rope, this way we can use a back up line. I have found ways to use two devices on a single line and will talk more about that in a later episode but a safer way is having a separate line altogether. This gives us added protection from lets say a rock falling and cutting our one line or (insert catastrophic scenario here).
WARNING: Having another person to climb with and check for mistakes is invaluable. There are many other small details that I can not cover in one short video. DO NOT watch any of my videos and think you have the experience to go at it alone. Have fun and climb Safe!

This is exactly what I was thinking of after seeing last week's video. I've got a cheap, toothless ascender that I don't trust with my life, so I prefer to back it up with a gri gri on a separate strand that is also loadable. Previously used two figure eights in the middle of the rope clipped into normal anchor gear, but cleaning was a pain (especially when pumped). Definitely going to try this out next time. For a permanent rig like this it may be worth taking inspiration from highliners. For instance you can replace the entire tree setup with a single spanset (polyester round sling on google) and it will be very resistant to abrasion/uv decay while being extremely bomber (6000lb basket WLL) and as cheap as $10 for an 8 footer. You could connect the rings to it with a dyneema soft shackle and it would be the most bomber top rope (solo) rig ever where you could leave it for years without it being a realistic safety concern. Soft shackles can be pulled from any direction without issue so it would be a good solution for the cross-loading problem without having to spend money on (and haul if that's an issue) a steel shackle.

Jordan Robinson wow I’m going to have to look into this some more thanks for the info! However I don’t think anyone would trust a soft shackle it would be a very odd thing to see. What is most common to see is 1 in nylon tubular webbing with some rings. Very cheap an effective.

Soft shackle would terrify me in that situation. I'd follow cavers rather than highliners on this one. A heavy sized stainless steel quicklink (maillon) triangular shaped would be perfect, but they may be $8 to $10 each

@@tomtom4405 I'd agree on the shackle, my thought process was that fixed gear bandits don't usually go for soft goods and you'd pretty much guarantee that nobody else climbs on your setup since trusting soft shackles takes a big mental commitment.

I dig that set up for getting the rope down. Super secure. Could even us paracord for the tag line... Super light and tough.

Anthony Lacy right and if the paracord did happen to every snap you just need to climb up a rig a regular rappel. But I think the paracord would do the job unless you had some crazy knot stuck situation. Which would suck 😂

Awesome video! Mammut recommends the Edding 3000 permanent marker for ropes, they're German so harder to find but I ordered one online for $3.

I don't understand why the rope needs to stay on the tree. If you had two different size rings you could retrieve it by trying a knot that can go through the first ring but not the second. This is what we do with Mrs in tree climbing. Unless I'm not understanding the situation...

You have to be very careful about what chemicals you put in your rope. I’m not sure if pen ink is harmless. Maybe it is 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think It would be a good idea to mark where the bite is on a figure eights for beginner climbers as well. Then again maybe not cause you don’t want to make a dead spot in the rope from falling in the same spot again and again. 🤔 Food for thought.

@@BetaClimbers Personally, I believe, that if you learn important and with such little margin for error you should be able to learn about how much rope you need for your knot. But I agree, it might be convenient. Not sure if that same spot thing applies "more" since you ideally already have the knot right about the same place every time anyway. idk man, you should be careful with the safety vids. there are rope safe markers and better / safer / easier top rope anchors for soloing that make me doubt your credentials a bit. people also need to research stuff too before flying outside, but... it could use a little more polish (especially for safety) before putting it out in the world. but the other vids cool, i don't want to be a huge hater, but there's some room to improve too. cheers
