@stevemf116 жыл бұрын
Leaving the handles on the other halves might actually make a great grip training implement, all sorts of things you could do with that
@bulletproof15816 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing, I thought the handles were kept on for that purpose until they cut them off, there is a video I saw on youtube a while back of a boxer doing some wrist exercises, he had his forearm leaning on the edge on a boxing ring, and using just his hand and wrist he was lifting a kettle bell from one side of his hand over to the other side, and then back over again, Brian should keep the handles on the weights and do a wrist strength gauntlet as well :)
@alexnelson096 жыл бұрын
I think they have one half with handles the other half without?
@bulletproof15816 жыл бұрын
alexnelson09 Maybe they do if they have more dumbbells, but they cut the handles completely off all the dumbbells that they had in this video so maybe they don't, I guess we'll have to see when another grip video get's made.

More than grip strength I think the heavier weights were too wide across for the other people's small hands to be able to hold properly
@bulletproof15816 жыл бұрын
Well it might not be good for improvement purposes, I'm sure getting grips of specific sizes for each guys hand size would make for better improvement of each guy, but lifting the same width weight is still relative to what one guy can do compared to other guys, so you still have to see and compare how people stack up with one another :)
@MichaelSteinmetzSUP6 жыл бұрын
That is part of grip strength. A larger hand can be advantageous in grip feats. If they were lifting that much weight by round, knurled handles then they could have all lifted all of them.
@plusnightlife6 жыл бұрын
What? No. Grip strength is akin to squeeze strength. That's why grip trainers are things you squeeze. This video is not a grip strength test, it's a lift weights off the ground test, which is a combination of hand size, strength, and grip strength.
@bulletproof15816 жыл бұрын
plusnightlife please please please stop trying to act like you know what you're talking about.......... first of all brian shaw who has been put on record multiple times as being the world strongest man, someone who has spent many many years not only lifting, but also trying to find out as much as possible on lifting, this man has called what they're doing a grip strength test, and you think such a man is going to get something as easy as grip strength wrong in terms of what falls under it ? secondly and I'm not sure how this hasn't clicked in your mind, but when they grab the blobs, they literally squeeze their fingers and thumb into the blob as if their trying to get their fingers and thumb to meet in the middle, this is what makes them able to pick up the weight, you know what also involves squeezing and trying to get your fingers and thumb to meet in the middle?? a grip trainer lol
@MichaelSteinmetzSUP6 жыл бұрын
@plusnightlife There are different types of grip strength. If you go to reddit.com/r/griptraining you will see all of the different things people do to try to improve their grip strength. Grippers are only one of many training tools. From the FAQ of that subreddit: "There are three main types of grip strength: Support, Crush, and Pinch. Support is how much you can statically hold ie holding a deadlift bar or fat grip handle. Crush is dynamically closing your hand such as grippers, grip machines, or barbell/dumbbell rollups. Pinch involves bringing your thumb and fingers together such as with a pinch block or hub pinch or a dynamic device like the titan's telegraph key. There are other divisions and subdivisions and types of strength that blur the category lines such as bending strength, wrist strength, lever strength, open vs closed hand, dynamic vs static, crimp, etc but are generally more advanced."

Hey Brian, I just realized this could be a Strongman event called Atlas Pebbles. You could either have small platforms (maybe 12-24in high all the way or decreasing as the weight increases) or have a rope / wall at 12-18 in high and the goal is for one to move the weight over the other side of wall. Both variations use only one hand. Winners are decided by time.

Mr Shaw you need a tube or bar or rail along side the column of weights and you need to lift each weight over the rail (use a 2x4 stud) braced at a height of 18", and @ 8" to right/left of columns center. You must set each one down before release no dropping. That, on a timer is a a good routine to race with.

Basically just a hand size test. someone with weak but huge hands could "grip" a basketball, whereas someone with smaller hands and a 600 pound deadlift wouldn't be able to lift it an inch
@siheath36486 жыл бұрын
Bigger the hands the more surface area of the object you can cover, like you say, it's all about the hand size, rather than grip for this particular test.
@WetPig6 жыл бұрын
But these aren't basketballs. If a golf ball weighted 200lbs, would you be able to lift it? Probably no. Not arguing with you because I really don't know how big these blobs are, can't judge based on a video. The guy who did the most had the skinniest and weakest arm. Thin fingers = more pressure = more grip I would guess???
