8/10 Everyone is so fixated on rotten tomatoes scores, it really is a solid film. I am someone who is not swayed by "critics" or rotten tomato scores. I didn't even really have any expectations going into this movie. As someone who grew up playing Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World etc., I was really just going to see this movie based on nostalgia and it does deliver on nostalgia. The visuals are stunning, and while everyone has their reservations about Chris Pratt the voice acting is perfect (except one for one elderly character). While many have said this movie moves quickly or "too fast", I would say it has great pacing and never leaves you bored. While it is not a perfect film it leaves little to be desired. It is everything you want from an animated Super Mario Movie.

Absolutely agreed!! There have been countless instances where we have genuinely disagreed with critics, to the point that we were baffled when something was received either extremely poorly or extremely well, so we get you on that! This movie was pure entertainment and joy - not everything needs to be deep, elevated cinema, sometimes things can just be fun! This film absolutely delivered both for those who have played it and for those who haven't! We truly enjoyed it!

Jack Black's casting as Bowser is one of my favorites in a movie inspired by a video game franchise. Right up there with Ryan Reynolds as Detective Pikachu and Ben Schwartz as Sonic The Hedgehog.

This was such a good movie man. I had a blast watching it. I also like that it was not afraid of going dark at times. There is even some somber moments too. One of the highlights was the musical score by Brian Tyler, who is actually a fan of the games. The soundtrack itself is a easter egg. It included almost all of the sound effects from the games. But I liked that the music is epically bombastic, heroically triumphant, cinematically upbeat and at times, relaxing as well. Tyler is also not afraid to bring in some suspenseful and ominous moments from time to time too. All and all, this was definitely a nice little highlight of a soundtrack and I had a blast listening to it. I’m a sucker of lush/grandiose style of orchestral music with some 8 bit video game electronics in the mix. Made me feel like a child again.

I absolutely love what Brian Tyler did which the score. We always appreciate soundtracks but this one was so much fun to listen to. As you pointed out, filled with easter eggs but also epic as hell!

@@OfficialMediaKnights if you also pay close enough attention, you can feel a bit of other elements too. For example, with Bowser's theme, you can hear a bit of Kylo Ren's or Emperor Zurg's themes at times. I was like: "Wait... am I hearing Star Wars or Lightyear right now?" There was also a bit of a heavy metal vibe in there too.

Here's another easter egg. The newscaster at the beginning was Pauline. The original damsel in distress from Donkey Kong, and the mayor of New Donk City in Super Mario Odyssey. I thought that was super cool. :03

I'm curious, how much of this movie did you know about going into this? It feels like a lot of hardcore Mario fans were following this movie pretty closely, and knew stuff like who the main cast was, including Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, and in particular that Foreman Spike, an obscure character from the NES game Wrecking Crew, was one of the first things anyone knew about the movie (he's the guy Sebastian Maniscalco played, at the beginning of the movie where he's picking on the Mario brothers, as well as towards the climax where he nearly runs into Mario, FYI). It IS fun to see people going into the movie not knowing this stuff, though, it makes the reactions more interesting.

I rate a 10/10 it was amazing how Mario and Luigi are both super star for defeating bowser. My favorite characters are Mario Luigi princess peach toad and donkey Kong. And for the second movie with Yoshi in it will be even more amazing. The super Mario bros movie was the best one in 2023. I watched 7 movies in 2023.

Dam, there were so many easter eggs in this movie. Such a great film. At first I was confused about some characters such as the penguins and the giant shark/eel so I had to search it up. My fav characters are Lumalee and Bowser. I wish they showed the other mario characters such as Daisy, Rosalina, Wario, Waluigi, Wiggler, Boos, etc. GREAT reactions guys!

Oddly, I'd be more curious about a Smash Bros movie for the plot, rather than the cameos and action. Anything to maybe give us a bit more actual context for Master Hand, and maybe some of the other villains. Since those games have always been extremely vague when it comes to any sort of story elements. Even Brawl, which had a story mode, didn't really give much actual information since there was no dialogue.

When Super Nintendo World is built in Florida, they will make a Mario park as well as a Donkey Kong park. And the Donkey Kong park will have a Rollercoaster for it. So hopefully it'll be like what we saw in this movie lol

They are actually building a Donkey Kong coaster for the park now. Supposed to open 2025. They even have it set up to "jump" gaps in the track. It's going to be awesome. By the way, it's also going to include a How to Train Your Dragon land, classic monsters land and a new Harry Potter area. All themed to the max. You even enter the Nintendo land area through a pipe. Well looks like you two have really enjoyed this Super Mario Bros. movie cause I certainly did myself! lol Princess Peach was a total spitfire badass and no matter how charming Bowser seemed to be it was NEVER gonna work out between him and Peach cause she's human and he really IS an evil conquering monster who tried to force her to marry him. Also Donkey Kong was pretty hilarious himself, especially during that arena fight! lol Ya know what Illumination and Nintendo needs to do is make a STAR FOX movie next hopefully! lol

Yeah it may be targeted at kids but I think it's incorrect to say it's not for adult gamers too. Only the adults are going to understand all of the references and Easter eggs. Regardless of when you came in for playing Mario, there is something for every generation in this movie. Whether it be the people who watched the original tv show, whether it be for the old school gamers who know Spike as a reference from Wrecking Crew, or people like me who have been playing since 64. I feel like there's something to enjoy for the entire fanbase as well as kids.

I feel like a lot of people hate on Mario's dad for what he said at the dinner table. Which is fair, but I don't necessarily believe that he was wrong. He's just trying to be practical, and look out for his kids' well-being. The problem lies in his tactlessness. It wasn't so much what he was saying, as much as how he said it.
