The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Nintendo and Illumination will have a story not directly related to the video games. In a new Nintendo Financial Report, Shigeru Miyamoto talks about bringing The Super Mario Bros. Movie to life, and how it tackles the challenges of video game movies.
Video game movies don't have the best reputation, especially with the original live-action Super Mario Bros. movie from the 90s being a solid example. However, from Sonic The Hedgehog to Detective Pikachu, things have been getting better in the past few years! Will The Super Mario Bros. Movie follow this positive trend?

7 years of planning, 6 years of work, 13 years of total production. They started this thing as early as 2008, if last year’s cast reveal was the end of the work stage. That still means they’ve been at this since the early 2000s though. They wanted to get this right.

I watched the new trailer. Here’s my personal opinion: The animation is incredible (Definitely Illumination’s best work), the story looks very promising and interesting, the characters look exactly like the video games and the voice acting is great (Still don’t know about Chris Pratt’s Mario though). In conclusion, i think this movie will be very fun to watch. This could be Illumination’s Spider-Verse.

Just watched the latest trailer, and from what it shows it looks like Mario will be trained by Peach to defeat Bowser. It also looks like the movie will reference several different Mario games, not just the main ones. Also, Mario had more dialogue in this trailer and Chris Pratt did sound better this time around.

I also noticed that in a way, Luigi and Peach kind of switched roles. Peach is the one assisting Mario, while Luigi is the one being held captive. Unfortunate to see my boy get done a little dirty, but with Peach finally not being the old damsel in distress and taking responsibility for her kingdom facing Bowser head-on is really badass. And maybe once Luigi does get rescued, we'll really see the full capabilities of the Mario Bros.

Calling it, movie ends with Mario having gone missing. There’s a scene with him trapped in a painting before cutting to credits. Post credits scene: Luigi with his Poltergust slowly pushing a mansion door open calling “Maaariooo” in a shivering voice. Bam. Sequel will be a Luigi’s Mansion movie.

I still kinds wish they did what Galaxy did in terms of story. That game is still the most cinematic Mario game, and has the most in depth story from the series thus far. I like how the movie is turning out, I just know that they could have handled it in a more different an better way.

The RPGs are the ones with the stories. Mario galaxy was just Bowser doing the same thing at a grander scale...then you go to these other galaxies and realise that the universe is boring as hell. Just more mushroom kingdom stuff everywhere. Mario odyssey did far better at making interesting locations, hell some of the lands in that game felt like actual other worlds more than odysseys did, like the colorful food kingdom or the dark kingdom. And of course the moon kingdom felt like an actual moon, if they tried to do a moon on Mario galaxy it would look like a small rock with a goomba on it that you walk completely around in a few seconds. I assume youre talking about the Rosalina character's backstory, but that's all optional and shes literally the only interesting thing in the game.
