You nailed it; I was Evercade curious too. Taito all the way for me but ive concluded I'll get every iteration including the new Atari and Technos ones and also a spare Taito one to use an EverSD with.

I'm fortunate to have the home console and EXP with all of the cartridges and really enjoy them. Usually 2 cartridges arrive per month by mail and are only about $25 Canadian each, delivered. If you're concerned with shipping charges, Video Games Plus in Canada offers free shipping if you buy 2 cartridges. There have definitely been quality issues with some Evercade products but I've never encountered any personally. Enjoy!

How do you know the issues are real, then? Could have just been propaganda pushed by emu-handheld makers.

@@douglasmaloney7580 True, but the people speaking of the issues tend to be passionate followers of the platform.

This may be my entry point for evercade carts. Smart move on their part
@darthwiizius Жыл бұрын
I'm grabbing the Taito one because of the fact their old games are not constantly available like Capcom and the colour scheme is nicer. Right now all the old Capcom games, loads of 'em there are, are on sale on Steam with the most expensive 85p (about a US buckeroo) so there are options. BTW there are a couple of games that don't currently work on the Pocket, "Cathedral" is one. I'm grabbing it with a cart of 6 European arcade games (Gaelco Arcade Collection 1). It's the perfect little device to carry around as a time killer and if I end up getting a load of carts I'll just pick up a Vs to play them on my TV.

I love my Evercade (original handheld), you pay for the game curation and the physical media. You will appreciate how the games are treated and It's a real treat to get the cartridge in the mail. It's more way fun than you would think and the games are very reasonable. I play it a lot via HDMI on my computer monitor with headphones at night, such a cool experience to pop in a new collection and see what they put together.

I'm excited to be entering the Evercade ecosystem! I also like the shift towards more indie collections as well as two-game and single-game carts that are more focused. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with the original Evercade!

As well as native games, the EXP screen allows for accurate emulation of the Atari Lynx and GBA. Something a 4:3 wouldn't do. It's not just about it being the only available screen type. It's also an IPS screen. The EXP has other problems though.
@simonmesure3325 Жыл бұрын
I have the exp and vs. Read so much about it being for newbies to evercade. For me is about a third of the price of the exp and is excellent for otg. I use exp at home only. So my taito version pocket will be for travelling and say if in library i can game on with headphones 😊. Looking forward to trying it in just over 3 weeks.

I don't have a retro game handheld. I wasn't able to choose one and last evercade was too pricy. Now I'm going with the taito one. I like the games plus italian amazon has only this one for pre-order.

My situation was very similar to yours. I love retro games, but a dedicated system seems kind of silly when most of those games are available on the Switch eShop if I want them. But when I saw these, between the design and the price it was an absolute no-brainer. I preordered the Taito edition, which to my eye is both way cooler looking and has the superior game lineup. I love Capcom's games in general, but they included the worst Mega Man and I'm really not interested in single player Street Fighter 2 on those built-in controls. (Ghouls'n Ghosts is very tempting, though; maybe if they had included Mega Man X it would have put it over the top) Taito's classics are less famous, but they're so, so good. Kiki Kaikai is the first game in the Pocky & Rocky series and it's incredibly charming. Then there's Bubble Bobble, an undisputed classic, along with the full array of Taito's own Bubble Bobble clones that I affectionately refer to as the Bubble Bobble Extended Universe: Don Doko Don, Fairyland Story, New Zealand Story, and Liquid Kids. Toss in an all-time-top-5 puzzle game with Bust-A-Move and this is a handheld that's going to get a lot of play. In my excitement I also preordered the upcoming Sunsoft cartridge for Blaster Master, Journey to Silius, and Mr Gimmick. I held out on Evercade for so long and these Super Pockets reeled me right in 😅
@BreakingPintMedia Жыл бұрын
I'm actually quite fond of the Taito classics... And that's why I wanted to get both! I played Bubble Bobble on the arcade and NES more times than I can remember. I still whistle the music from time to time. :) I also loved Operation Wolf on the Arcade and PC, though admittedly, I really sucked at it. But like most games of the era, that was probably a "not just me" problem... lol I agree...the tangible nature of these trumps their availability on the Switch eShop or collections through Steam. They're like collector cards... with buttons, screen, and cool color schemes. Enjoy yours once in your hands!

The Taito version will now have 18 games, they kept the inclusion of Puzzle Bobble a secret to begin with It's the VS console that the Namco cartridges won't play on, as Blaze only have the licence for handheld systems.
@BreakingPintMedia Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the clarification on the licensing issue with the Namco cartridges! Also, that's really cool about the addition of Puzzle Bobble. Another commenter mentioned that a few days back and I'm excited for it.
@CZpersi Жыл бұрын
Compatibility with Evercade cartridges depends on the ability to update firmware. If this ability is not present, then some of the future cartridges are likely to not work.
@depafeo Жыл бұрын
This will play Namco cartridges. The issue was the BS nuanced licensing that said the cartridges can only play on evercade portable devices and not a full console aka evercade VS.

From a value perspective, I agree. The collectible aspect of the Super Pocket and Evercade brand attracts a niche market, so in a sea of readily available handheld emulation consoles, they're targeting a relatively small audience. Thanks for your comment!
@Hydro-Ponik Жыл бұрын
Go buy a $20 data frog 2000 and you won't believe what you get for the price. Other then that Evercade is actually licenced games and they will have value in the long run.

I assume the audience for this product are those who are not typically retro gamers (perhaps they own one or maybe 0 retro consoles) or the retro console curious but are hesitant in putting down a lot of money into getting into retro gaming. And for that specific audience then yeah I think this is good product. If you are an experienced retro gamer then you are probably not the target audience.
@BreakingPintMedia Жыл бұрын
I'm not so sure about that... Speaking for myself, at least, I own almost every retro console that ever was, several "real" arcade cabinets, and many reproduction or 3/4 scale cabinets. And, although I'm not a hard-core game collector, I still own a large collection of games. I also own almost every iteration of Anbernic handhelds, GameShell, etc. I also work in the gaming industry. I think it's more along the lines of those of us who never felt the Evercade consoles called to us are drawn to this one.
@tiredguy2753 Жыл бұрын
@@BreakingPintMedia for me I never felt the call to evercade or heck retro gaming in general, I don’t own any retro consoles, I don’t download retro games etc… so for me to give retro gaming a try at only 60$ is a good deal. If I find out that even after giving the super pocket a try that retro gaming really isn’t for me then I am only out 60$ no big deal. So to the newbie of retro gaming I think this product hits the mark perfectly.
@BreakingPintMedia Жыл бұрын
@@tiredguy2753 agree. I think Blaze made a smart move with this one at its price point. As you describe, both from the perspective of those who aren't into retro gaming, so no point in spending a lot of money on systems that still require fiddling to be tailored to your liking (most emulation handhelds) or "feature-rich" consoles like the existing Evercade lineup. But, also from the perspective of those who are into retro-gaming but felt that same lineup wasn't for them. This has the markings of a successful product, and their new brand could become their primary money maker!
