As someone who’s being at school/uni for the majority of their life I much prefer light academia because it reminds me of the joy of learning, rather then the competitiveness/darkness/stress of dark academia

Great video. I too absolutely love Braiding Sweetgrass. Her writing is so warm and emotive, who knew science essays could be so moving. I am considering pre-ordering her new book.

this is the push i needed to put braiding sweetgrass on my reading list, after hearing about it here and there; funny thing, gathering moss was already on it because I've seen some very interesting quotes from there, but i didn't realise both of these books were written by the same woman!

Yess, absolutely read it, it will change your life!

I saw natural history of dragons on the thumbnail and had to click. I was wondering how to get more recs for this type of book because I really didnt know how exactly i would describe it but light academia is exactly what it is. I also read Emily Wilde now, I just bought the second book, and it reminded me so much of the stuff that I like in lady trents memoirs. There are five books in the main series and I absolutely love them so much. It's arguably not a journal though, it's rather, you know, a memoir haha

Went to the city today to watch the stage version of Bird Song. Couldn't resist calling in Waterstones and buying The Natural History of Dragons. Piranesi what can I say, disturbing, cosy, unforgettable.

Why did you stop with tiktok videos where you read books from every country in the world ? it was so interesting.

I’m sorry! I find tiktok a difficult platform compared to KZbin. I am thinking about posting again, because it was fun sometimes!

When you started to define light academia, my first thought was "she must LOVE Emily Wilde"... And I was right! I'm gad to be able to put a name to one of my favorite genres. Light academia is so cozy but seems to have more bite to it than most other cozy fantasy, it's a fantastic ratio of elements lol. I've been wondering if I should read the Lady Trent books so I'm glad to see you recommend them. I loved Piranesi; have you read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by the same author? I usually classify it as dark academia but by your definitions it would be more light academia. It's a fantastic chunky read.

Guess what book I JUST finished this morning? Jonathan strange and Mr Norrell!! How weird is that?? Also I totally get light academia vibes but there’s def some dark academia with Mr Norrel in particular (pursuit of knowledge and arrogance etc). Overall loved it though!

@@LydLoves ahaha guess I'm psychic! 😌 Man I love that book. And I totally get what you mean in Norrell's characterization; it kinda walks the line between those two kinds of stories.

Great vlog! My best friend enjoy reading classic books as it gives us a nostalgic feeling. We also enjoy discovering new books to check out! What are your favourite books? My best friend asks “Who are your favourite book characters?”

I, unfortunately, hated Secret History. Turns out, that exalted, not even 20yo, people who study philosophy and care a lot about prestige and status, are a bit too much for my 30yo "don't give a damn" mentality. Loved Leigh Bardugo doh! Maybe because MC was a little bit more grounded and less impressed with every rich person she met? I love Babel and how Kuang captures critique of colonialism in her book, but yeah, overall it is not my fave genre, if it is just based on vibes or the characters are on the younger side. I don't mind the dark setting and I don't need the lightness, but I just think like I am too old for "arrogance of youth" as you put it 😅 The Natural History of Dragons is on my TBR forever! I need to get around them finally! I think I first saw them when they were first published but never get to them. But less romance sound like up right my alley! Little women and Anne of Green Gables are classics at this point. I loved them, especially as a young girl.

Hahaha I know exactly what you mean with the secret history! I’m reading Hell Bent soon, and I’m excited to get back into the world of Ninth House. But overall, light academia wins hands down!💚
