Try looking up what our founding fathers said was the reason for giving us the Second Amendment. Everyone is the militia. And at the end of the Second Amendment it says shall not be infringed. And, it does not say anywhere in the Second Amendment that the militia will be governed by or overseen by the government... It is we the people to control the government, not the government to control the people... I doubt seriously if you understand this, seems you didn't pay close attention in school... There are lots of restrictions on the right to bear arms. Felons, mentally ill, children and others. Plus, you do not have the right to "bear" lots of arms. Fully automatic weapons are heavily regulated. WMDs are banned and they are arms. Throughout much of American history it was illegal to carry a weapon in public. Only in the last 30 years or so has this "right" been discovered. In fact, many cities prohibited possession of firearms in a private dwelling. In early American history, militia arms were usually owned by the state and stored in armories, drill was mandatory and controlled by the state, usually by a colonel appointed by the Governor. Only on the frontier, which actually was not part of the United States did the average person own his own weapon for militia use, usually as defense against Native Americans. I am a gun owner, but have no desire to see the average American running around fully heeled, just looking for an excuse to settle minor disputes with a fusillade of gunfire. And as for defending yourself against the state, good luck taking on the US Army, USMC, Federal Marshalls, FBI and even the local sheriffs department SWAT team with your AR and a few boxes of .223.

That was the mindset where I grew up in Massachusetts. The police chief had to “pass you off” after you gave him a “good reason” to ask for the privilege (meaning you had been actually threatened, with evidence to show it’s an ongoing risk). Otherwise you’d be denied. And I’d hear the cops who came to the gas station where I worked at the time say things to other cops like, “Hey, ‘so-and-so’ applied for a permit, can you BELIEVE that?! What the hell’s THAT a$$hole need a gun for?!”... As if only the police should be allowed to have weapons. I was just a kid, so I said nothing, but I knew that wasn’t right. But the attitude worked to ‘cow’ the public into not even applying for permits, because if you did, in small-town Mass., you knew there would be people talking, and looking at you different from then on... Luckily, where I live now is a “shall-issue” state, so it’s nobody’s business but mine.

@G Bogart He wasn't "breaking the law"... he was apparently "violating" a mere statute. George Orwell warned us about the manipulation of the language...at the hands of the state. Remember...a "statute" is not law...by definition...especially when it attempts to overturn a fundamental...and constitutionally protected right. Remember...the legislature CANNOT create "criminals" out of mere statutory enactment. The fact that they get away with it....(prohibition era for one primary example) is clear and convincing evidence that the liers...I mean lawyers have completely abandoned "corpus delecti" (proof of injury harm or loss) as the fundamental prerequisite for any "criminal" prosecution. It's my understanding that this court case revolves around the state of New York's ability to veto a "Conceal Carry" permit, even if that individual meets all the requirements for the issuance of that permit. In other words, the case is attempting to remove the ability of one person, or even a group of people in the state government, to "willy milly" refuse an individual's right to a "Conceal Carry" permit.

From Illinois... to own a gun in this state for many years we have been required to have a FOID card (Firearms Owner I D). Just a couple of days ago a judge ruled that as un-Constitutional. Judges with guts is a beautiful thing to see....Love God Love your neighbor Love yourself...

a state illinois judge ruled that the fire arms ID card requirement to own any kind of gun is un constitutional. people who own guns moving into illinois were required to get a FOID card before entering illinois well you cant get one until after you establish residency. anyone caught with a gun without a foid card is 2 to 6 yr prison term

I hope and pray you're right. I've been disappointed with the recent SCOTUS, though. I still like Thomas and I loved Scalia. But Barrett and Kavanaugh have been disappointing so far. And don't forget, at one point 8 of the 9 justices were Republican-appointed...and they still didn't overturn Roe vs. Wade.

When they have laws like the one in New York that was pulled back, the Supreme Court still needs to weigh in so that the same kind of laws are not able to be voted in and force gun owners to lose their rights until the case can work it's way back to the Supreme Court .
