Boy are you a bad judge of character. Mary had so many people fooled...here she is stabbing Diana in the back on national tv.....but she's humble and transparent....more like a calculating moderately talented opportunist...she didn't care about Flo she is using her to further her own career because she had nothing else...so character assassinate her childhood friend and paint herself as a victim....I lost all respect for her....and I was there from 1964 on...

Thank you Sir! I've been looking for this for over Thirty years!! Mary Wilson was so forthcoming and honest in this interview with Phil Donahue about her life with the Supremes and the one thing that stuck in my mind at that time was when she stated how she wrote the book to let everyone know how chicken she was for not standing up for herself, for Florence, how she wasn't as strong as she is now. I loved seeing and reading the growth of her spirit and personality from those experience to the present time. And I do believe her when she stated she didn't write the book out of malice towards Diana Ross, but it was her truth and what she saw and felt trying to make sense of it all. Thanks again for letting us hear her story in her own words again!

As pretty as she was in this interview, Mary lacked poise and eloquence. She came across very bougie, starting out of the gate with "asking Barry for a Rolls Royce." Mary never really had true success of her own, always broke and having to borrow money from Diana. She never learned from the mistakes she made in her early years, as evidenced in her second memoir. RIP, Mary.

+M Lane i saw your comment on mine, i just don't want you to misunderstand me, i've read the book and I don't think Mary responded the questions differently or badly, i just meant that it seems like the interviewer was asking her a lot about Florence, because it was obvious that he sees her as the one who Mary should had stand up for back in 67, and that she seemed at the end a little uncomfortable with that situation, but I agree when you said that she answered just like in the book. I myself don’t think that the book is bashing Diana, I think it says what happen through Mary's point of view, it doesn't mean it is 100% right or wrong, it was her point, and Diana has hers and Florence had hers as well. It is a great book, just like Supreme Faith.

The Supremes were rightfully inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. May her contribution to the music industry always be remembered and ultimately appreciated. If Mary had taken Flo's side at that fateful meeting with Gordy, she would've been on Gordy's perpetual shit list, which was not a good place to be. Mary was smart. It was sad, but Flo was responsible for her own downfall.

Great interview , direct proof that Mary was not just a very pretty face but also a very smart, perceptive, and outstanding person. Very complementary to Ribowsky's excellent book The Supremes. Mary's book is next in my campaign to thoroughly understand and experience by proxy the drama and brilliance of Motown ,the Supremes, and others in that incredible pantheon of music stars. Her voice is actually quite good and would have worked well on Broadway., Florence on the other hand was pure R&B/Gospel and there was no way ABC records could have had the insight or vision to know what to have done with that ( pair her up with Elvis who also had some amazing gospel song tracks of his own) . They wrongly tried to shoehorn her into pop which is not what she was made for. Florence in some respects was similar to Mary Wells externally very tough but at the same time a vulnerable impulsive heart.

I cannot tell you how precious THIS interview is to ME! I can't thank you enough The sheer purity, and honesty of this really brought me to tears a number of times. And This was a plea for us to understand, instead of Conclude, Read into, and Judge! It's an honest, unbiased presentation of Just What Happened, and How it just "WAS", among the 'Human Being' aspect of being in such opportunistic situations. I'm so proud of Ms Wilson for standing UP TO ALL of this, and taking all the "foolish and inconsiderate" *Shots* 'At' her..... The Wonder of her HEART is completely remarkable! Thank you!

Here’s what I find interesting about her relationship with Diana. Mary it seems from teenage years until now as senior citizens, has been the prettiest one. I wonder how that has affected Diana’s pettiness. Because from everything I’ve heard other than Gordy most men desired Mary. That had to add to Diana’s win at all cost attitude. Very interesting...
@stage7

@@ccth22 I Concur! From the things known and light shed on by way of MANY FELLOW artists, what you express is VERY "on point", resulting in the cases of attention grabbing antics, USING a lot of the OTHER girls' antics while THEY were instructed to "play down" and relegate to background position, and then the cameras being instructed to play them down as well, focusing ONLY on Ross and only showing them AS, or in relation TO Ross, and NOT individuals or apart from Ross. Subtle but blatant disrespect of the OBVIOUS POWER and APPEAL OF the others who made the chemistry that created the entity and boosted Ross BY those tactics! She DID know it, and it DID cause friction on all points, which was ALSO used as fuel to exalt since one was MADE the focal point over two UNDENIABLE MONSTER draws, an Otherwise Impossible feat..... Leading to the efficacy of the exalt becoming successful. Even the eyes antic. I have Seen FLO do that a number of times, as she was the one who most dared to "break" the rules of relegation, and shine forth, knowing THEY were Stars, and were "Terrific TOO"! 😊. And to ME, It's no doubt as to why she did it, and why so much friction between her and Ross and Gordy, because Florence "heard" A LOT of things that were going on behind the scenes, and held it Over Gordy, who couldn't Handle THAT... Or HER! THAT, AND MARY being SUCH a focal point even Motown "played with" the notion of..... By putting HER 'Forth'...... Mary just didn't HAVE THAT mindset. Had she, things Would've been different indeed! But she was always pure-honest team player looking out for the BEST of the Unit, Not herself alone! And it shows in her YET persistent LOVE For the other founders and then successive other members after. And She REMAINS.... "THE" SUPREME!

Who of us is brave enough to deal with problems when we are young? I am very happy of Mary's success after The Supremes. She has had three books that were New York Times best sellers. I met her a few times in person and she expressed that her greatest desire was to have a big hit record. Though that never happened, she was truly a superstar in her own right. She is greatly missed.

mary wrote about the reality of the situation. she described diana as she was - a pain in the ass. there's nothing wrong in writing about the truth. if someone wrote a book about me and mentioned all my qualities - both good and bad - i'd shrug my shoulders and think , well that's me and so many humans are similar. instead, diana , being the moody arrogant diva she is, took a real insult to it, and has never forgiven mary for it. that says more about diana. who claims to be all loving and kind. my arse!

So RIGHT my friend! And it's clearly, CLEARLY EVIDENT in this concourse, the motives and the LACK of "Agenda" that the PEOPLE want to read "into" it, which PROVES they did NOT "READ" the book as it IS, but witch hunting for things TO spin a negative about, when there Really Were None!!!!!!! It's sad that we have Done that to them! I was in tears a number of times at the honesty of the situations, and how purely the presentation was, and "without" her personal feelings and opinions spinning it, Regardless of what accusers WANT to SAY, revealing themselves more than anything. And on top of THAT, they've NEVER stopped to realize that ALL the things THEY HURL AT her viciously trying to hurt and undo her and cast bitterness into her arena, they'd NEVER have known ANY of it, had MARY NOT already revealed it in her story!!!!! It's a paradox of absolute Foolishness whenever someone THINKS they are going off on Mary trying to make her LOOK bad or THINK they're accusing HER of always trying to "play the victim"! This is so honest and proves itself!!!! Lastly, THANK YOU for what and how you said it! 👍💖😎
