This is a fantastic series and such a great story. I'm revisiting this series for the third or maybe fourth time now. Tom's seemed very much to be a man of my liking. Allways a engineering viewpoint of what works and what is not and why it is so.

Thanks Bill Pitts and Tom Jobe. The music is fantastic and Mr. Jobe, brother, glad you're still around. Didn't make it to Lions until I was 6, but a few years prior my parents would take me to the Santa Monica beach which I remember very well. I was about 3 and songs from Brazil '66 and Herb Albert and the TJ Brass were on the radio a lot. Thanks for this fascinating history.

Was just helping Bob out yesterday on the dragster. Getting it ready for Paso next weekend. Routine maintenance turned into pulling off the entire top end! Some leaky exhaust valves were discovered during a leak down test. Off to the shop on Monday. Quick turn around thank God! Car should be ready for the trailer on Thursday!👍Love the videos. Wish I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Jobe.😥

My vote is for a “Surfers” movie! I have heard about these guys for years but never knew about this series of videos! My dad was from south Texas near Houston but was in the Marine Corp. from 1960-1964 or there about at Camp Pendleton, CA. (He passed away 11/30/18.) he said he went to a few drag races when he was out there, but he didnt have much interest in it.

Bill, this is a fantastic series! My dad grew up around this era. He pitted and was life long friends with Johnny Aleman who built and owned the Sheepherder, a fuel altered car than ran in the 70’s out of Arizona. Is there any chance you could make a playlist out of these videos so that it is easier for my father and others to watch their way through them sequentially? Doug Milliken (he and his father authored "Race Car Vehicle Dynamics") directed me to this site. I'm one of the original Ramchargers and, of course, I'm an octogenarian. From what Doug said, I thought that, perhaps, this would refer back to the "High And Mighty" and those days when we were truly a car club, separate from corporate influence. In fact, some of us were worried that we might lose our jobs if we were "found out." The club started from a conversation among three of us, in the company cafeteria, and, fortunately, Hermann Mozer...a real "go-getter," was one of those three. I had the idea, but it took Hermann to get the ball rolling. Barnes Daniels was the other one of our trio. Bill, if you would like a truly inspiring story, I would suggest you talk to Pete McNicholl. He had half a dozen or more NHRA class records, all won with the slant six.

Bill... Thank you for making contact. What was going on where you were is just as fascinating as what was going on out on the west coast. You know, the Surfer series is just a start when it comes to gathering up as much of the early days of drag racing as can be done before we lose the story tellers. It is my hope that someone with financial backing will take the baton (if you will)and carry these stories to the next level of production. Any one of the teams running back in the day could be the subject matter. We just have to hope. But for now, at least we are getting something to hold on to and share. Have a good day, Sir. Im sure I know some friends of yours that do the same thing..in print etc. I also have a good friend who drives a fuel car. I've made a dozen documentaries on subjects ranging from advertising (basically evil) to Cajun Mardi Gras (kicks ass) and beyond. PAGE ONE: Keep the viewer w/you. Coulda cut in footage of The Surfers, old race posters or stills of other fuel cars of the era. I know the Surfers' story. Probably the best tale around. I couldnt give a shit about John Force, the NHRA, NWA or any current drivers/teams. I think Austin Coyle and Connie Kalitta are interesting folks. In 63 I raced a 55 Bel Air-348-2 AFBs-4 speed w/cheater slicks at the LaPlace Louisiana strip. Saw a ton of illegal Match Racing all along the Gulf Coast. Got halfway through a 421-64 Tempest build when my partner was killed. I CARE..
