The panel continues to talk about some of the artists in the sport.
Enjoy...
By the way, the great photo of the Surfers boiling the hides at Bakersfield in '66 at the 12 minutes and 50 second mark of the clip was taken by Mr. Jim Cooper.

As I watch this on April 20, 2021 the Surfers 2 car is being auctioned off in the Tom Hanna Trust Auction in North Carolina.

I have always wondered why they never ran this car. When I watched this as it first came out I missed the part where Tom said the car was basically obsolete before it was finished as it was a conventional clutch Tire smoking car. What a shame such a beautiful car

Once upon a time a long time ago I was watching my favorite racing event, the 24 Hours of LeMans, in the last hour one of the commentators, who was a former class winner, said something like “At 3AM in the morning you are bone tired and you realize you are only halfway done. Then when you are on the last lap and the marshals are waving the flags you think why can’t we just keep going?” Thats the way I feel about this series. I was there when three guys came out of Santa Monica and ruled the top fuel roost. My wife and I were there in 1966 when Mike and Tom and Bob won Bakersfield. This series brought back all those great memories. I wish we could have kept going forever. Thanks Bill.

Mr. Pitts,, what you have done here is awesome!! Myself and others will enjoy these videos for many many years to come. It’s great to see these old cars come back to life, and hear all the stories that go along with them. I can only imagine what it was like back in those times seeing so many nitro cars competing against one another, almost on a weekly basis. That was a time when the driver truly had to “DRIVE” the car, no computers,no technology just pure guts. I must truly thank you for what you have done here!! I have one other question if I may, sorry to use this platform to ask it. I am from Northern New Jersey and my home track is Island Dragway in great Meadows. I just purchased a front engine dragster from an old timer that was built,(from what I am told)1964. I do not think it was ever a fuel car but I am very curious to find out who may have built the chassis. The old-timer that I got from does not remember, but he did remember it was built professionally according to the person he bought it from many years ago. My plan is to restore the car completely, and use it in the nostalgia shows and races that they are around. My knowledge is limited on these older cars, so any help would be greatly appreciated,,especially sourcing parts. Thanks again,, I hope to hear from you. Eddie.

Thank you again and again for this series. I love the comment that this is from Tom and Don’s memories but verified by the news and pictures from the day. This is true history as opposed to the “what I remember after 50 years “ years kind of memories. I’m sorry this has to end,but ,maybe there is another group of memories out there waiting for Bill Pitts and company.

Although it might be boring for some, I'd like to hear a more in depth technical discussion of the clutches used and how they were set up and adjusted since they were such a big a part of the performance (and destruction) in the mid '60s. Thanks for an awesome channel!!

Outstanding as always. Just curious, did I miss it in a previous episode; does Mr Jobe elaborate on the accident that claimed Mike Sorokin? Additionally, I'd like to hear more about Bob Skinner as well. I guess I'm suggesting or agreeing with comments made by Mr Jobe in the previous episode, I'd like to know more about the character of the people. It's really true as he suggests, these are special people and their collective talents were a special magic,,, else we wouldn't be clammoring for even more tidbits. Thanks again

I have watched #49 with great interest as I have with all the sessions, however the color picture that was referred to from the Winternationals was my photo features in Rodders Journal #49. Thank you for all the positive comments, for years I did not know who the car belonged to till I posted it to an internet group I belong to DRI and Tom recognized it.

Hello Jim. I'm sorry I didn't attribute the photo to you, as I should have. If it's alright with you, I'll add attribution in the comments section that shows itself just below the video. With just two episodes left to go I got sloppy on this and will let you see episodes 50 and 51 so we can make sure we give you credit in the main body of the episodes if needed. Again I'm sorry. Just getting sloppy, I guess. Bill
