We cannot deny how many whales die because of ship strikes; the numbers are very alarming. But there are some solutions. Our crew spoke to Michael Fishbach of the Great Whale Conservancy about where exactly the problem lies and what we might be able to do to stop it. There's still hope!

It's not whale poop, per se. Ambergris is only produced by sperm whales, and even then, only by a small percentage of them, I believe. It's a secretion they make in their GI tract.

It's actually ambergris from a whale. Not the actual poo. Look up the word ambergris and tell your granddaughter about it. Bonding moments are special but the correct information is priceless too.

North Atlantic right whales are decreasing in population. It is a must to recover their population. Whales do help our oceans in so many ways not only due to carbon and phytoplankton. Large fisheries, and gears are causing enough damage already. People have to be mire conscious.

I suddenly realized i am grateful we dont have whales or something as big as a whale on land. I would hate to step in whale poop on land. Just a weird thought while wondering if im going to watch this video. Oh hell yeah, im watching this. If only there was a way to attach tracking devices on every whale we could and have satelitte tracking? Warn off ships from the area the whale is in. It would have to be a worldwide effort. Not a simple solution. Or figure out some sound that will make whales leave the area? And have all ships have a device on them to make that sound and broadcast it to be heard only in the vicinity of the ship. Not loud enough to be heard by the whole ocean, just the ships vicinity. Enforcement would be a problem. Unless you had surprise inspections by the coast guard or some other organization that can stop a ship. Inspect the device and if it is removed, broken, or whatever then this ship might be up to something. Like smuggling, or drugs or trafficking. They are hiding something. Dont they stop ships that are suspected of smuggling drugs and search them? Or is that something you only see in movies? The tip that they are suspected of smuggling or something illegal that gave them away is that they tampered with the devise, perhaps thinking it was a tracking device? Ok, enough. Its late and im falling asleep and babbling. 😊

I’ve done my part by not reproducing! I’m the eldest of five, and the five of us collectively gave our mother seven grandchildren. One grandson died while still in single digits, one is schizophrenic, and one is severely developmentally impaired, so none of them is likely to reproduce. My niece recently had a child and a different niece has had at least one child, but I’m not in touch with her, so I don’t know if there were more. Overall, I’d say we did a fine job of not getting carried away…
