Others have thought they knew to look for the star because they were from the area where Daniel had been. Daniel gave an exact count to the year of when the Messiah would come so they knew the time that he should be born would be 20-30 years before that. Then the Magi who learned from Daniel passed the wisdom down and so on.

I think Jesus was a magi (magician) wich is why they paid homage to baby Jesus. Also in the nostic book of Thomas kid Jesus was indeed performing magic so to speak. Also in the bible he turned water to wine fed the multitude with a couple of loaves n 🐟... And one of his closest disciples was Mary a Magdalene who was also a magi. Hence the name Magdalene.
