The most corporatey feel to a card shop that could ever exist. Personally, I kinda prefer the mom & pop ambiance, where a little bit of disorganization/clutter/bargain hunting is just a part of the vibe and experience. I'm sure the store will do well, especially considering the strong backing from Fanatics who will load them with as much product as they could ever desire to take on, combined with a great location and Geoffs brand.

I think what people sometimes fail to consider is that security is a necessary evil. Every dollar of loss to theft (or to damaged merchandise) has to be made up somewhere else. The store isn't going to eat the loss, ownership isn't going to eat the loss. You're just going to see higher prices. So in effect, YOU'RE going to pay for the merchandise that's stolen. The question really becomes whether you want to pay a little more or wait a little more. In scenarios where there's crowding for a product release, you're not going to have to wait much on staff, because they're already going to be IN the area that you're interested in, helping other customers. In the long run, it seems like a minor inconvenience. Especially in a world where pharmacies are locking down deodorant and cans of spam because certain elements of our society will walk in and clear entire displays into rolling luggage and (depending on where you live) there isn't much the store or security can do to stop it.
@kmacy909 ай бұрын
A shop in Atlanta area, security is the very first thing to address. :(
@jeffroitero42669 ай бұрын
@@kmacy90 I'm in NYC. I know all about this. For a card shop, if thieves understood the money in play and had a network to move stuff, they could probably knock ten grand worth of merch into a rolling luggage in about 30 seconds.

Anyone who hates on this store, I’m going to say this the “meaning way possible” rethink ur opinions or stay FAR AWAY from the hobby. Cuz this is exactly what the hobby needs cuz, no one else is doing shit lol Just look how many people are there, & it’s not cuz “it’s a new card shop” it’s cuz; they made it a place like this. A “cool/fun” hang out for young collectors & even collectors of all ages Kids will be asking to go here after school, & during summer break. THIS IS WHAT OLD CARD SHOPS WERE LIKE. But this is the FUTURE now But this is a KEY thing that new card shops need to do, Mix POKEMON & SPORTS CARDS! & ALL the other “hot” cards This is what the hobby is & the only way these stores will keep it alive. The old smelly just sports shops or just the nerdy MTG/comic shop, isn’t it anymore Kids now who play pokemon also collect sports cards. & same with most collectors But I’ll reiterate, if you hate on this, either keep ur opinions to urself or just burn all the investment u have into cards cuz, stuff like this, is the only way your “card investments” will stay around. Doesn’t matter how good a player does if people stop caring about the hobby Just tired of old heads who can’t stand change & hate on this shop for zero zero reason other then they’re too old & dense they don’t realize these new shops aren’t the old smelly “pops & mom shops” they grew up with. It’s 2024, the hobby changed MASSIVELY, & one of the biggest changes, Pokémon & sports cards have become one with each other lol Just tired of so many negative people that they don’t realize, social media & popularity is how these hobbies survive. & all these content creators are literally carrying/helping the hobby in so many ways. Cuz if all these guys stop posting vids, people would stop caring as much to collect. Then prices go down & the “big boom” is over

In the singles cases, I noticed 2 things. There is a lot of extra space to add more. But the biggest thing is, the bottom rows are WAY too low and the angle is directly out and not up. The most "surprising" thing about this video is that its 3:30pm on a Saturday afternoon and its a ghost town. That's a really bad sign for this store surviving. Both of you guys are knowledgeable and pleasant folks, so I know that you're not trying to be negative, but you have to be somewhat surprised that in your walks through major sections of the store, you were almost completely alone. The breaker rooms were completely unoccupied, there were no lines at the registers, and virtually no "din" of activity. These are normal signs to see during the week, but this store needs serious business on the weekends to make the necessary sales to stay afloat. I don't see it lasting, to be honest.

Geoff Wilson will subsidize it with $$$ from ThreeFiveTwo, his wife, and his PPP loans. While I'm sure turning a profit is the goal, he's got to much of his personal reputation, pride, and arrogance intertwined with this store to let it fail. I just got to go for the first time today. I was impressed. It was a lot cooler than expected and a lot of the sticker prices were actually very fair. I actually found a couple of steals too that I scooped up. Of course it’s a card shop so wax prices are a bit expensive for retail wax at least, and also paying taxes when checking out sucks, but that’s business. I really liked the showcases, it felt like I was walking through a library of cards. Easy to see and lighting was good. As far as everything being locked up it wasn’t an issue. The staff was helpful, and attentive, they do ask if you are done or want to add to a stack under a name which is nice, so I was walking around for about an hour or two and when I was done I just said I had a stack under my name and boom checked out.
