KLM has made a surprising move that has everyone in the aviation industry talking. Despite its long-standing loyalty to Boeing, the Dutch airline has decided to say goodbye to its fleet of 787 Dreamliners for the Airbus A350. This decision has left many wondering: what drove KLM to make such a drastic change, and what does this mean for the future of its operations?

Klm does not at all say good bye to the 787. The A350-900 will replace the 777-200 and Airbus A330. The A350-1000 will eventually replace later on the 777-300. But the 787 willl remain in the fleet.

You forgot the A350 freighter. Boeing lost the freighters also to Airbus.

This report is false. KLM currently has 39 787s in service right now with 5 more on order. The A-350 orders are to replace the aging 777s and A-330s that are currently in their fleet. The order for 50 A-350s will be disbursed between Air France and KLM. They are NOT replacing the 787. This is another propaganda video for Airbus. Do you own research and you'll find this very misleading.

Not really, you forget, that the 787-10 is a cattle car used to move a lot of people and a little freight on medium haul routes. Like shown in the Tokyo example the 787-10 isn't enough plane, it's a compromise with not enough MTOW. There is always the triage between passenger, freight, and fuel. The A359 with around 280t MTOW has a significant advantage. Be it more range or more belly freight on shorter routes, what shouldn't be underestimated. The recent examples of Cathey and EVA show it. Another factor is the A350 freighter, that looks more attractive than the big, fat, heavy 777-8F. Reality is catching up with Boeing. They cross financed the 787 with cash from 737 sales, what isn't possible any longer. The 787 is complex, not production friendly. Now that they are short on cash they have to ask rather steep prices for the 787, what cannot be justified with a few % better fuel economy.

Commonality for pilot rating across 737, 777 and 787 - not in anyone’s dreams - airbus fly-by wire a different matter - lots of waffle

Stupidest comment: there is no commonality between 737, 777 or 787, and both 777 and 787 ARE fly-by-wire.

@@vy3334 You might want to reread the posting of chrisweavers. Eventually you realise he considers the commonality between the Boeing planes as "not in anyone's dreams" while he calls the commonality between Airbus types "a different matter" due to Airbus's design considerations, that put a lot of emphasis on commonality between types. Looks like your reply is even more stupid.
