As of now, we aren't really seeing too much potential until around Thanksgiving, at least according to multiple forecast models. And keep in mind we generally don't want to buy into anything over a week out. So while our long range model is suggesting some potent cold moving into the area around Thursday November 28th and lingering thereafter with some fairly chiller winter-like temps, that is so far out into the forecast that we musn’t take it too seriously. However, despite there looking to be a brief cooldown not next week, but the following week, I think your best potential for colder winter-like temps will be after Thanksgiving and heading into December. I live in SoCal, as long as northern CA gets a lot of snow, i dont mind SoCal being warmer and drier, we get most of our water from them!

We had the first near disaster flood here yesterday since I moved here. The water in a creek suddenly rose and half my yard was rapids and the water came up to 10 feet away from my steps very rapidly. Then whatever was blocking the creek gave way and the water rapidly fell. I think the dumb new neighbors had a bridge or dirt road built across it with a small culvert pipe for the small creek to trickle through and thought it was a genius idea. That`s the only thing it could have been from what I saw happen and I heard a bulldozer over there recently. This creek has never risen that high since they put in a proper bridge across it on the highway. They nearly destroyed my home and several others and theirs probably flooded being so close to the blockage.

So what are you thoughts about seeing very snowy winters in Chicago, and what does the Jet Stream area mean that you showed at the end?

@@KirDimL527: I do believe that you will see a fairly active winter snow wise. The jet stream itself isn't a region, it is simply indicating the path that I believe the jet stream will most consistently fake in the U.S. this winter. So as for which region you would belong to, simply find the closest region to you from the blue jet stream overlay, and that is the region you are a part of.

It may be a little bit, but there will be rain. Usually this time of year is fairly dry for those of us in the NE.
