The Survivors Abandoned this Town Overnight...

On the 6th April 2009, a terrifying earthquake struck the L'Aquila region of Italy.
Many of the towns and villages surrounding the city of L'Aquila were left in ruins, with massive structural damage to buildings. One of those towns, however, stands out amongst the rest.
The town, just a handful of miles from L'Aquila, was so badly effected that many homes were left too dangerous to live in. They were immediately evacuated with entire families leaving their worldly possessions behind.
The Earthquake, which should have been predictable and able to be mitigated against, represented a huge oversight for seismologists in Italy, six of whom were sentenced to lengthy jail terms for their incompetence surrounding the potential of the devastation that occurred that morning.

A really gripping video featuring a town abandoned during an earthquake in Italy. There's a powerful effect of a moment frozen in time, like the Marie Celeste or Pompeii. The isolaion of the place compounds the strangeness of the abandoned apartments and houses. There is pathos in th objects you picked up like the Man U scarf and the Monopoly board. Was it the standard London board or an Italian adaptation. It was the houses that were least damaged that were somehow most moving. Clothes in the cupboards, made beds, and even a teddy. These people left in a hell of a hurry. The video is all the more powerful because you seemed to be on your wn that early in the morning - and then there was the growing feeling that you weren't alone which was really creepy. The security who caught up with was quite nice really. He seemed more bemused by you than anything lse! Great stuff, Lyam. More!
