One of the very few legitimate "Ex-Pistols" tracks, this song was actually initially released in 1980 as a Sex Pistols single, with "Black Leather" (another lost late-era Pistols obscurity) as its B-side; it failed to chart or make much of an impact on anyone and would be forever forgotten were it not for Dave Goodman's repeated resurrection of it on the many semi-legitimate compilation albums he was involved in assembling and releasing in the eighties, usually pairing this and other actual Pistols rarities with his own counterfeit "Ex-Pistols" recordings, which he then tried (and largely succeeded in) passing off as the real thing - that is, as ultra-rare, unreleased (indeed, even unheard) Sex Pistols songs from the seventies. If you're unaware, Goodman was the group's soundman and also engineered (calling him producer would be pushing it) most, if not all, of their early recordings, including the infamous July 1976 four-track demos that make up "The Mini Album," the January 1977 sessions that are the bulk of this release's actual Sex Pistols songs, and the sessions that the band self-released as the "bootleg" album, "Spunk," just before their actual debut album was released by Virgin Records in the U.K. (and Warner Bros. in the U.S.) in late 1977; having ownership of all of these masters put Goodman in an especially good position to profit from the release of unauthorized but still technically legal compilation albums of Sex Pistols music, much to the misery of the actual band members, who were understandably upset at not being consulted or, more importantly, paid royalties for these many releases, most of which appeared in the eighties on Restless Records, Skyclad Records, and other obscure fly-by-night indie labels.
